I am using Outlook Express 6.0, and am tryin to forward the spam as an attachment to my spma submitting email address, but I get the messages bounced back, saying something like

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its

recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

  submit.----removed-----[at]spam.spamcop.net

This message has been rejected because it has

a potentially executable attachment "Get 1 MILLION Unique Visitors - Starting at O'nly $9!.eml"

This form of attachment has been used by

    recent viruses or other malware.

If you meant to send this file then please

package it up as a zip file and resend it.

Am I doing something wrong?

I don't see how to answer this without simply asking whether or not you've read through the Forum FAQ, the recent additional entries in the recently added "How ti Use ...." Forum section .... submittal of spam for parsing via OE6 has definitely been covered in many discussion areas also, so what hasn't been covered already that might explain what you might be doing wrong is pretty hard to guess with the little data you provide ... sure, it might be the spam, it might be your submittal mode/process, it might be the phase of the moon ..???

Please, read through some of the existing data (some of which is tagged "Read before posting") ,,, decide if you are doing something wrong or not ... if not, then let's talk about your spam ... and that would be best handled by using the "paste-your-spam-in-the-box" and then providing a Tracking URL ...

OK, I did read through all of the posts which were flagged "read before posting" before I posted my message - from what I can tell, I'm not doing anything wrong. I have not seen any clear faq on how to forward as an attachment, a spam message using OE6. I tried this with several spam messages, and got the same bounceback... I'm assuming it as to do with the fact that I'm attaching the message as a .eml attachment... is this not the way to do it?

You didn't say that you went into the "How to use ..." Forum .... again, if you say you've looked at all the other data, then try the "paste-your-spam-here" .. offer up the Tracking URL ...

The other query deals with a FAQ item titled "How do I submit spam via email?" ... which leaves me in yet another cloud when you ask about "attaching the meassage as an .eml" ....????? other specific entried dealing with OE / Microsoft e-mail products do not appar to have been looked at either .... headache kicked to max here .. I'm done for a bit ....

Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time understanding my question. I don't know if you're just having a bad night or what. I've read through all the FAQ's and related posts on this forum I'm not getting a tracking URL back from spamcop when I submit the spam. Basically, what I'm doing, is right-clicking on a spam message in OE6, and selecting the forward as an attachment option. I then put my spamcop submitting email in the to field and hit send. Several seconds later, I receive the bounceback message as I posted above. Sorry if my problem inconveniences you...

What Wazoo wanted to hear was what you just posted. If I had seen your question before he did, I would have told you to do what you just described - which would have been a waste of my time and yours.

The next step is to copy the Message Source to the web page submitting box and parse it and see what happens (if you decide not to send the report, then cancel it before posting). then you can post the Tracking URL here so that people who understand the parse can see what happened.

However, it sounds to me that you have an executable file that could be a virus and spamcop won't take it by email unless you zip it up. If cut and pasting works, then when you get that kind of spam, you will have to cut and paste (or learn how to zip the attachment).

My guess of what is going on: Your ISP has a filter installed on its SMTP server that catches outgoing messages with certain file types attached, e.g., .exe., .pif, or in this case .eml. When you forward as attachment in Outlook Express 6, this email program gives the attachment a name that ends in .eml, which causes it to get caught in the filter at your ISP.

Here is a little test to determine if that is in fact so. Take a random file, change the extension to .eml, write a new message to nobody[at]devnull.spamcop.net (or any other recipient you like), and attach the .eml file. If I am right, you will get the same rejection notice from your ISP. Note that this is a limitation imposed by your ISP, not any problem with SpamCop.

In this case you should have no problem submitting spam using the copy-and-paste method. Using another SMTP server without this restriction would also help.

You should be getting confirmation emails for each email submittal, and you should be getting a "Report spam" link above the box where you can paste your spam. If you are not getting one of those, please see Emailed spam Submissions Disappearing?, No Confirmation e-mails? and E-Mail spam submittals blocked by your ISP.

Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time understanding my question.

I hear the question. I'd offered some alternative methods to get some things answered, but you've not availed the use of those alternatives, sticking with saying that you are having problems with "doing it this way" ...

I don't know if you're just having a bad night or what.

Perhaps a read of http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?...611entry24611 would show that it's been more than just a night ....

I've read through all the FAQ's and related posts on this forum  I'm not getting a tracking URL back from spamcop when I submit the spam.

And "pasting-the-spam-into-the-box" has been repeatedly suggested, which would definitly offer up a Tracking URL has still not been attempted.

Basically, what I'm doing, is right-clicking on a spam message in OE6, and selecting the forward as an attachment option.  I then put my spamcop submitting email in the to field and hit send.

This would have been a bit easier had you stated it this way in the beginning. You may not think it is that big of a differnce, but .... please read it literaly ... what you said here is a far cry from the original "tryin to forward the spam as an attachment to my spma submitting email address" and then the later "that I'm attaching the message as a .eml attachment" description. From this side of the screen, having to guess at what was meant behind those previous phrasings is very difficult.

Several seconds later, I receive the bounceback message as I posted above.  Sorry if my problem inconveniences you...

Not an inconvenience. Pain, drugs, inability to focus one's eyes ... then compounded by offering up some alternative methods to work around at least one issue and seeing those suggestions ignored while repeating the original "it doesn't work" thing ... as a whole, and as stated, with headache kicking into overdrive, I didn't think it wise to try to continue ... thought I'd be nice enough to point out why I was disappearing at the time.

That you now have something sent and are waiting for a response is another item that can have multiple reasons associated. I'm still going to make the repeated request .... try the paste-your-spam-in-the-box thing, get a Tracking URL of that parse, and let us see the spam involved. You may run into an issue where the file attached is too big, thus getting truncated in the process, but the header data to include the fle name of the attachment should still remain visible. Let's at least work that pert of the problem out.

Yeah, so far so good... so once I send off the reports, is there anything else I need to do, or just keep at it?

Unfortunately, you've asked another question without painting in the whole picture. In reading through various FAQ sections, other discussions, you should have come across the need to verify the parse results and send the complaints on their way ... but you didn't mention this activity. You might be Quick-Reporting, but you didn't mention this. So, as stated in a fair number of other queries about "what happens after I submit my spam?" .... the answer would be 'not a dang thing' if you aren't following up ....????

Sorry that I am continually seemingly unclear. Maybe I'm just unfamiliar with spamcop jargon that you just assume people would know. Anyways, I'm sending off the spam messages (forwarding as an attachment), as I previously stated. I am then receiving an email from spamcop, where I click on the link, decide who I am sending the reports to and whatnot, then clicking a button that says "Send spam Report(s) Now" That's as far as I've gotten so far... Is that more clear, or am I still missing something?

That would be the "Personal copies of outgoing reports" feature of the Reporting side (click "Preferences" and "Report Handling Options" to get to the "Reporting Preferences" page, then scroll down). IIRC, it worked as a permanent BCC at one time for every single report, then it broke, and then it was resurrected as a 3rd party checkbox in the parser for sending one report per parse (the default of which is handled by "3rd party report default" at the bottom of the "Reporting Preferences" page). Sadly, it only supports one email address.
