Spam sent to Reports Address (Report ID)

Sometimes spam is sent to the Report ID. (The address that report receivers can reply to if they wish. The address is a number[at] reports.spamcop.net which is then forwarded to the contact address spamcop has for the reporter. Responses to reports are usually few and far between.)

If you try to report this spam, the parser will want to send the report to spamcop. You should cancel the report and notify the deputies.

If you receive spam to a reports address of the format <report number> [at] reports.spamcop.net, send it to deputies [at] admin.spamcop.net,

If you receive "you have been removed" emails to a reports address and you are 100% certain that you

never subscribed to the original mail, send it to deputies [at] admin.spamcop.net.

Make sure that you include the complete mail with all headers.

Hum. Is this spam catched by Spamassassin (and so put in the 'Held' folder)?

If it is passed directly to the 'Inbox' or forwarded, I could manage it, but if it is held (in between the +2000 junk mails/day in my 'Held' folder), that can be a problem...

Like any other e-mail, it depends on the construct, content, and your settings.

This is an attempted FAQ entry on an age old problem of spammers sending spam to a SpamCop.net Report-ID address, which is a specific address generated during a Parse & Report action that ties the Report to the user that submitted it, such that if the Report target desires to contact the SpamCop.net user, the Report-ID address acts as a blind cut-out ..... SpamCOp.net receives that e-mail then forwards it to the SpamCOp.net user's Registered Account.

Preferably, your query would have been better placed into the Reporting Help Forum section, as it really doesn't contribute directly to the FAQ entry itself ....????? (just my opinion)

Background for the latest issue can be found at [scspamcop] spam sent to a recent spamcop reporting address Sofa King Tyred of Lar Ting
