Full Version: How to turn off Mailhosts

If we start to configure Mailhosts and then want to revert back to our old Spamcop configuration how is this done? I tried simply deleting the mailhosts, but that didn't seem to work either. I've looked all over but can't find instructions on how to back out of this, even on this forum. The darn thing is blocking 100% of email, even with all of the mailhosts configured, and I've already spent way too many hours trying to figure out what's wrong.

Thanks,

Mailhosts have nothing to do with the holding of spam messages. Mailhosts is a reporting side only thing.

This should be moved to the email forum by a moderator.

We would need to see the headers of a held message to determine why the messages are being held. If it is all messages, it usually means your ISP's server is on the blocklist.

Agreed .. moved, poster PM'd, Topic Title modified a bit ... and a repeat of Steven's comments, the mail-host thing doesn't do filtering or blocking, so there's another reason your e-mail is "blocked" ... which actually is a strange description ... blocked means it isn't "getting there" .. but this isn't a normal function of the SpamCop tool-set either ..???

It would be nice if someone would post (in this thread) a link to instructions on "How to turn off Mailhosts" (presumably already posted in the forums), in case someone stumbles accross this thread looking to actually reverse the mailhosts process.

Well, if you go back and read the Pinned items over in the Mail-Host Forum, you'll note that Julian / Ellen stated that "there is an option to revert your account" ... but noting that this was said quite a long time ago .... Perhaps the option is no longer in place, which is why you're not seeing it ..???

Right now, to back out of the mailhosts beta you simply delete all of the mailhosts you have configured.

Follow the Mailhosts link from the reporting page, go to the bottom of that page, select the mailhost configuration and hit the "Delete host:" button. Repeat for all hosts.

Please note that this possiblity is available right now while mailhosts is still in beta testing. It has been mentioned that reporting will not be available without a mailhosts configuration when it becomes mandatory.

This email is for spamcop administrators. I use spamcop to filter email for my business, which has totally stopped today. When I try and log into the system using the same username and password I've used for the past six months it says there's no such username!

My questions are thus:

1. What has happened to my account?
2. What has happened to all of the email forwarded to this account?
3. How can I fix it?

This is extrememly critical, as spamcop is holding up paying orders from customers!

Thanks,

I find this to be more than a bit confusing .... You never stopped back to say that your original complaint of "e-mail being totally blocked" was resolved ... yet this post states that "it just stopped today" .... Did whatever went wrong last time happen again ... and just what was the solution last time?

1. What has happened to my account?

Hard to say from here ... there's only one indivdual that has access to that part of the system.

2. What has happened to all of the email forwarded to this account?

One could guess that it's still sitting somewhere, but in the interim, maybe you'll want to stop the Forwarding until you find out what's going on?

3. How can I fix it?

See above and repeat what you did back then .. or contact support <at> spamcop.net .... but you're going to have to provide much more data to identify just what account is in question.

Answers all over the place. Sorry that you can't handle web-links. Shall also note, that based on your presentation, this is not the same issue ... so are changing your story or what?

...Or, rather than contacting support <at> spamcop.net directly, you could navigate to SpamCop FAQ: What is this SpamCop Mail Service?, click the link labeled "Contact us" and fill out the form.

What if I say .... "I'm confused" ...???? I've got the Forum FAQ pulled up here in another window ... and here's a clip from that screen (minus the Bolding of the Section Title);

How do I set up SpamAssassin to work with SpamCop?

This started with the spamcop.net FAQ and as you can see, it has the additional stuff put in from" here" .... no changes have been made the this section since adding in the "How I use ..." item, which has been a while.

Let me also add here that the poster that set all this off did his/her best to create a bit of tension to begin with. Five brand new Topics, four of which were exactly the same text repeated within each one ... then after I had deleted some, merged the rest into a single Topic, he/she then moves into another Forum and posts a bit of rant over there ... then add in the FAQ "discussion" while I'm playing travel coordinator for a family funeral event .. I had no humour left at the time ... but, even now, I'm having a hard time going with "I looked all over and through the FAQ and found nothing" ....anyway ...

...If someone were looking for "how do I contact someone about a SpamCop e-mail problem," one will not find a direct reference to it in the Forum FAQ. If we want to make it easier, I'd suggest an entry be added along those lines. OTOH, I guess there's an argument to be made for leaving it a bit hard to find.... smile.gif

As I'd hinted, JT's response pretty much goes along with the current layout ... bit of his response to asking about putting his stuff up in neon lights <g>;

that the homepage for the email system is at http://mail.spamcop.net should be sufficient. The contact link is on that page, so if they go to the email front page, the contact link is right there.

I'm not trying to hide, but I already get enough questions from people about this, that and the other. Someone emailed me about the DSBL today. Others email me about viruses or bounces totally unrelated to us.
