A lot would need to be changed, of course, yet definitely a but fuzzy on how some of this would actually be applied in the strange situation this Forum seems to be in ...????

Well, if "we" had a long-term contributor pull the pin and demand the removal of all "hir" posts, then compliance would cause considerable chaos. Approaching it from left field a little ...

Trying to avoid the possibility by posting a unilateral ownership claim - which may or may not be sought by the actual owner of the forum - after a couple of years worth of posts are on the board would be contentious at best. And it would be a mistake in my opinion to imagine that a poster might not have "reasonable" grounds to seek removal - for instance, the sudden apprehension of a lack of security of the material has been mentioned "here" before.

Members could delete their own posts once - http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?...w=findpost&p=22 That lead to some problems, the occasional hilarity - http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?...findpost&p=4271 Also, on the theme of restrictions of members control over "their" posts - the time limit on editing could increase the liklihood of someone wanting removal.

In the end, I guess it's a balance. Give the members back control of their posts, they are again their responsibility, and bear the known and previously experienced consequences (which, to someone not having to clean up the mess, might be typified as an occasional annoyance and the loss of a minute proportion of "data") or face the unknown in attempting further control to avert a hypothetical situation of considerable disruption or contention or both. The choices are probably not really that stark. I'm not sure, nobody could be sure, how immediate the risk is but I don't imagine it needs to be addressed all at once.
