Full Version: webmail.spamcop.net: is it down?
SpamCop Discussion > Discussions & Observations > SpamCop Email System & Accounts

I have not been able to contact webmail.spamcop.net since just after Christmas. Is the server down. I can get to it via pop, but I want my horde web based email back.

Is it me or is there something wrong on Spamcop's end?

I've tried multiple browsers, so I kind think it's down and not a cache issue. I didn't see anything on the news.php page or on the newsgroups.

That there is zero newsgroup traffic and no other folks here raising what would seem to be a serious complaint, it would appear to be something at your end.

Well, SOMETHING is going on. Webmail is working very SLOWLY for me. I admit I'm using a motel internet connection instead of my regular one, but all other websites (including this one) are working fine.

Left a message on JT's answering service advising that both mail and webmail.spamcop.net servers are down.

Hey JT... this is happening too often. What is being done to resolve the issues and get our reliable service back? laugh.gif

Are you confusing some things? Though not a user, I'm not aware of major issues with the e-mail services that JT's providing, though the "reporting" interface/system has had major issues for the last many months. That's all handled over on the IronPort side of the house. Check the "Reporting Server Status" graphic/link for outages on that part of the SpamCop.net system .. noting that Jeff G. was tracking the various dips, spikes, and outages in one of the Announcement entries here. But again, that server status hasn't any direct bearing on a SpamCop filtered e-mail account, other than the "reporting" problems.

SC email (CES) is back up. :-)

(but there's nothing in the "News" confessing the problem...)

I submitted a spam complaint as a workaround thru the website and I keep receiving this error message. Is this a Comcast problem again?

send mail:smtpOpen: connect to smtp server failed (Connection refused)

Please advise.

Moderator edit: moved from the How to use ... Reporting forum and merged into this existing Topic, as it's a bit of fallout from the e-mail system coming back on-line. PM sent to advise of the move/merge.

When I try to report from mailsc page, I get the following error:

QUOTE
Cannot send mail:smtpOpen: connect to smtp server failed (Connection refused)
Leave this page open and try 'reload' in a few minutes

I tried several times with the same result, interestingly quick reporting seems to work, and the e-mail I try to report the lengthy way parses differently every time (with or without the websites being recognized)....

PS. I am posting from a university connection...not comcast

PS 2. As of 1:45 pm EST it is once again working.

Follow the "Reporting Server Status" link at the top of this page .... the Reporting system is just now starting to catch up with the flood of incoming reports.

*EDIT* I need to note this is at 9:51 AM PST.
I keep receiving an error that "Login failed for some reason. Make sure you use your FULL EMAIL ADDRESS as the username"

I checked the news link and don't see anything about an outage. Any ideas?

I had an intermittent login issue using POP3 for an hour or so earlier today but I've not been aware of it this afternoon (UK time).

Since the issue was intermittent I've not had time to reliably reproduce it from here.

I can't pop my spamcop acount (The server error encountered was: The server "pop.spamcop.net" refused to allow a connection on port 110.) or login to webmail (same message as stated above)
bensor
Same here. Pop doesn't work, nor does logging in directly. I get "Login Failed".

Ditto, except I'm gettting "Login failed for some reason."

I am also unable to access email via either POP3 or Webmail. mad.gif

The Email Service is down. There is no access via POP, IMAP, or webmail.

We have left a message to the owner. Unfortunately, that's all we know at this point.

<AOL>Me Too </AOL> Seriously. I'm seeing the same problem trying to log into webmail. I didn't know that "support[at]spamcop.net" was the proper email address for SC webmail, so I sent it to service[at]cesmail.net (the last time I knew, that was the correct address for Jeff T). For the record, I started this about 20-30 minutes ago and I'm still unable to log into webmail. As I type this, it's 1:30 PM EST.

Could be we're back to the problem in that the data center is so secure, JT won't get all these messages until he leaves the building?????

Thanks, Don. FWIW, it appears that although webmail isn't working, we can log in via IMAP (don't know about POP)

The webmail system appears to be back up now. At least I was able to log in and do some stuff.

From the news on the webmail login page:

Jan 10, 2006

* [22:40 EST] We continue to have problems with one of the main fileservers. At this point, most people can login, but some cannot. We're working on the fileserver and attempting to get it stable again. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your patience.

I'm still having trouble getting my mail via either POP or IMAP.

2:36 EDT - the news says all problems are fixed, but I am unable to log-in on 2 separate accounts.
