Hotmail fetching IS set up (see http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=13) but it still won't get my Hotmail e-mails ... any ideas anyone ???

BTW: another account I have fetches just fine from a POP3 server ... are there any issues with Hotmail folks ???

Seems like HOTMAIL pickup went down sometime Saturday... It is saying invalid password for me... Password is correct... Manually tried it...and error count continues to go up...
Should we be posting these type errors here? or sending a notification else where?

Nope, this is the place that JT said he'd be monitoring. Now the catch is, is this problem massive or only the two of you so far? Personally, my OE / Hotmail connection has been working all along (and for the g6cid poster, Hotmail doesn't do POP)

Just tried the following:
1) Look @ Hotmail ... 2 pieces in INBOX...
2) Look at SPAMCOP setup... Setup correct.. Error count still increasing...
3) Double-checked HOTMAIL by looking at mail from PCS phone ... same userid/password... yup mail still there...
4) Back to SPAMCOP... count still going up
5) Deleted and re-Add HOTMAIL with same parms as before and known Userid/passord...
6) Error count was back to 0 and then began increasing....
7) Must be an issue on one or more blades.

Yahoo is/has been receiving fine...no problems

Exactly the same for me. All three Hotmail accounts showing 'Invalid password'. Yahoo POPing just fine.

Same with me. My Hotmail is not being POP'd. Am getting the error message "invalid password". I can log into Hotmail using the same password and it is working. Any idea about when this will be fixed?

Note kicked over to JT to take a look. All I can offer.

My hotmail account is doing the same thing. I thought maybe it got hijacked, so I changed my Hotmail password and updated it in Spamcop, to the same results..

Please let me know what the fix is.

Haven't heard anything from JT, but as more and more are chiming in here, it's a pretty good guess that when he checks in, there will be some kind of answer provided here, (or Hotmail will just start working again, for whatever mystical reason <g>)

just to add my 2 cents, my hotmail accounts (5 accounts that had been working good for the last 6 months) are not working! Invalid password error and counter was at 176 before I reset it. There is Email sit at hotmail to pick up. and I can access it through outlook so passwords are not the problem. Oh all other pop accounts work fine.

All seven of my Hotmail and MSN accounts are showing "Error Count: 235" and "Last Error: Invalid password". JT has been notified.

Monday morning here and hotmail pick is still down! Is there any where that I should report this, or is some one monitoring this form and can get feed back on what is going on? Because I don't see any thing on the system news identifing a problem. And I do beleve there is a problem with Hotmail or Spamcop. Any feed back from someone that knows would be GREAT!

JT wrote me "the hotmail problem should be fixed now. I kicked the machine." All seven of my Hotmail and MSN accounts are now showing "Error Count: 0" and "Last Error: Invalid password". I'm going to wait until "Error Count: 1" before concluding that it's still broken.

It's working!

SpamCop just POPped 30 spams from Hotmail and MSN through popgate on my behalf.

This is the place that JT was going to monitor. But, and now seeing that it took JeffG to ring the bell, guess my notifications don't count either ... At any rate, per JeffG's last, problem was seen by someone, someone read the notifies, and problem is now resolved.

Guess that fixed it! My hotmail popped all of my messages to me about 1:30pm EST.

thought the problem was fixed...now spam cop is not retreiving any of my messages from Hotmail or MAN...keeps saying "invalid password"...i've tried resetting everything...and still it is not working....help!

Mine is back on the "invalid Password" problem again as well. Just started up today, since I got my earlier messages yesterday

If it's of any value, been sitting here playing with an iBook, finally got all the software updated on it, pulled the ethernet cable, got the airport module configured, so finally got to the point of setting up an e-mail account on it. Sent an e-mail from the iBook to another HotMail account .. worked just fine ... However, over on the Windows machine, I hit Reply: ... got an error message from HotMail that it didn't like the authorization method used...??? sit there and pondered that one a bit, then just hit "Send:" again, and it went on its way ..???

One of my accounts pulls from hotmail and I just checked...

So I am guessing it is still down.

I can confirm the exact same symptom. I notified JT again. My Error Count currently stands at 92.

JT wrote me that he had reset it, but he can't test from where he is. I now have "Error Count: 0" but still "Last Error: Invalid password". I'll be checking until it's fixed.

OK, it's now working. My POP Configuration shows normal and I just got 19 spam emails in my Held Mail Folder, some from Hotmail.

It's stopped working AGAIN!!! I'm now showing an error count of 39. Same 'Invalid Password' error.

It was working for awhile yesterday...now it isn't...I have 51 "invalid password" for both my hotmail and msn accounts.

Same symptoms. I notified JT again.

I read my hotmail via OE (it is not pop'd to SC) and every once in a while, when I go so send (via OE), I will get a dialog box asking for my name and password.

This after I have already downloaded (embedded name and password) mail from that particular hotmail mailbox.

I don't know whether this is an OE or a HM problem but if it IS a HM problem maybe your pops are encountering the same HM problem.

It's working now.

The Topic you posted in (for the most part) was dealing with an issue of one of SpamCop/JT's servers not "talking correctly" to the HotMail servers ... I'm not sure which "member's comment" you might be referring to ... Yes it is possible, yes it normally works ... just that situation where "stuff happens" was the issue raised here.

Microsoft's MSN Service and MSN Hotmail Service appear to provide two ways for their Members to access their email: HTTP via www.hotmail.com and proprietary HTTP via Microsoft's Outlook Express. They do not appear to provide access via the POP3 or IMAP protocols, nor do they appear to forward.

Corporate Email Services' PopGate appears to use a proprietary method for SpamCop Email System and MSN/Hotmail Customers/Members in common to bypass this limitation and get their mail from their MSN/Hotmail accounts into their SpamCop Email accounts. Part of this proprietary method appears to be the use of the POP3 protocol by fetchmail 6.2.1 on mailgate.cesmail.net within Corporate Email Services' internal network to connect to popgate.cesmail.net. This method works the vast majority of the time, but in three recent instances (as seen and referenced further back in the history of this Topic), PopGate has failed (with mail not getting picked up and with POP Configuration using SSL or HTTP reporting "Last Error: Invalid password" and increasing "Error Count") and needed to be kicked. I have no more information about how or why PopGate failed.

I only noticed because I wanted to set up Mail Hosts and it failed to connect to the Hotmail server.

I just checked my account and the one Yahioo account I have setup shows no errors.

Perhaps if you re-enter the passwords and see if it resolves itself? It would be nice to know what Error 8 is, however.

the errors mysteriously went away -- I've seen it happen before -- I just wanted to see if it was happening to everyone. (ok, actualy the errors went away, came back, went away .....)

I still haven't been able to get my hotmail accounts added to the Mailhosts though.

Edit: now they are added!!

A very small number of Unknown error 8 is normal. It shouldn't be more than 1 or 2 and doesn't affect picking up Hotmail at all.

It's a symptom of when one POP process has "caught up" with another POP process. When they bump into each other, one of them gets an error 8.

Hello Everyone:
Well, pop mail seems to be broken again. I have been trying to get some assistance in another thread but then I saw this one.
First I have been trying for over a week to pop my aol mail and it wouldn't work. I was getting invalid password just like you all. Then I thought, well, why don't I try my hotmail account. Same error, wrong password.
Then I tried to pop my hotmail into OE, I got a security error and when I tried to force it to send and recieve I got the login and password box over and over.
I can get into hotmail and aol web mail over the web with no problem, same user ids and passwords so I know I am using the correct ones.
So, last night I got smart! :-) I created a brand new hotmail account and was able to pop that into OE just fine but it still won't pop the old account. I tried deleting and readding the old account to oe and no luck there either.
So, is this a hotmail and aol problem, an OE problem or a spamcop problem????? I'm confused!

That said, and in that light, there should be some error message popping up to 'explain' the lack of a good connection and transfer of your e-mail into OE ... what is this error?

Still no feedback at all from JT on anything I've tossed over to him, so I don't have a clue where he's at these days ... but I am kind of stuck on that there aren't a lot of folks joining in with your complaint that the SpamCop e-mail thing isn't working, so we're back to trying to guess just what it is that you're doing different. On the other hand, it is a bit frustrating that another AOL user hasn't popped in on either Topic to add in a suggestion or two. Perhaps one will read this and join in?

popgate is working for Yahoo mail at least as I have been receiving my messages with no problem.

I'm sorry, I am proably not using the correct terms. Basically I couldn't download my messages into OE and I was getting the same error on there that I was getting when I tried to pop both AOL and hotmail into spamcop, invalid password. When I created a new hotmail account I was able to download the new messages from the new account into OE.

So, I then set the new hotmail account up to pop into spamcop, reset user name and password for both the old hotmail and aol and now, VIOLA, it works! I don't know what happened. but it seems to be ok...for now.

Thanks for everyone's input and I'll be back I guess if it stops working again! :-)
