  1. Living now in Bangkok things on the internet have changed for me. Sites are blocked by Thai censors, sites don't work that are in the US and now I've run across this dork who's selling a "PHP website anti-hacking, anti-exploit and anti-spam scri_pt" and unfortunately people are using it and blocking me with that! I tried to access a site (http://lightzoneproject.org/) for their software which was recommended to me, and was greeted by this lovely message. http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z210/em...28at10624AM.png There is no recourse, no way to communicate with the site to let them know I am being blocked, nor anyway to let them know the product they bought is sh**. So I went to the makers website www.spambotsecurity.com/zbblock.php‎ and of course I get the same lame-a__ message so I can't even contact him. So I found a youtube video promoting this junk and posted my complaint there as there is no other way to get to them. I use True Internet Thailand, probably the largest ISP here and my IP is 115.87.125.158. Here is the discussion. Me: I tried going to one of your client's sites yesterday and was greeted by a lovely message claiming I was a bothost. I use True Internet Thailand. I then went to whatismyipaddress and checked my IP (124.120.244.150) and found that 95%+ found my IP to be NOT blacklisted. I don't know if it is your product or poor implementation by the site owners/builders, but having to access a site via Tor browser just to view it is BS usually reserved for getting around censors. Me: I just tried to go to your site spambotsecurity and got the same message saying 403 I am a bothost. Great job guys in blocking non-spamming non-blacklisted IP's. Him: Just do a google search on "asianet.co.th spam" and see what turns up. Due to personal experience with spam from that ISP, and the fact they were listed as rfc-ignorant at the time the block against them was instituted, the block remains in effect. HOWEVER: 1. Webmasters can set a trouble-ticket email address in the scri_pt if they so desire. 2. In the ZB Block Manual, there is concise instructions on how to bypass anything around a block. Him: Sorry, but I forgot to mention I have records of hacks coming from your ISP too. I don't give a whit what other blacklists say, most of my scri_pt is my own, and my users research & experience. Me: That does a legit user trying to access a global site absolutely no good whatsoever as any communication with the blocked site is blocked. I don't know who "asia/co/th" is as my ISP is True Internet Co and your "not giving a whit" has blocked, if my experience is mirrored by other True customers, the largest ISP in Thailand for a site (lightzoneproject DOT o r g) that needs to have a global reach as they provide software. Presently there is no way to reach it thanks to your approach.... Me: ...nor can I reach your site to try to rectify the issue. This leaves a legit user trying to access a global site where? I hate spam as much as the next person but this person/company is, as they say here in Thailand, oVER! They're short changing their clients and blocking legitimate users from accessing their sites. Argggh! Stymied by the club-fisted approach to internet security! I did a blacklist search on my IP and here's the screen shot of that. http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z210/em...8at114359AM.png [Edit] img tags converted to links. NO EXTERNAL IMAGES thanks - http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?...E=01&HID=18
  2. That is very cool zap. My hope is that by doing so it won't open a floodgate of spam causing problems for your users and make me look like a horse's patoot. Much appreciated and your users are lucky to have such a responsive supplier. e
  3. Thanks for any help. I understand the predicament, yet the execution leaves no recourse for a legit person wanting access. Some message like, "if you feel you've reached this page in error, please contact blablabla w/your IP in the subject" or some such way of filtering out the spam that will probably result just from having any kind of contact info available. The scri_pt is effective obviously. To make a site impervious to any method of contact makes the user/site seem "unfriendly" in an accusatory kind of way. Maybe 99.999% of the people/bots that reach that message are deserving, I don't know.
  4. US expat I am, so I went to hotspotshield and was greeted with this! http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z210/em...0at124151PM.png This is how Thai censors greet you. By using http://proxypage.net/ I can get to it. For some reason Tor failed on that site. www.stopforumspam.com lets me in so I'll have a look 'round, thanks! It's frustrating enough when Thai censors block you but when over-zealous spam filters get you it just adds to it. [Edit] As said in first post edit - NO EXTERNAL IMAGES, thanks. 7. From time to time I get a spam that has my email address in the subject line. Seems a clever way to insure if reported, to know who reported it. Typically it means I have to send the spam to SC, view the full message, copy that, then cancel the report, paste the spam into SC, and then strip my email from the subject line. Since 99% of what I am reporting comes from Yahoo, I use the option-shift-F method to FWD the spam from my browser (not an email client) to SC which doesn't allow one to change anything in the FWD. I'm wondering if there is a better method or should I just not report those spams as my address in the Subject I assume isn't going to be obfuscated. Typically these are Chinese spams IN Chinese except for my address. I'm also wondering about those spams that have my address in the BODY of the spam and how those should be handled. I was going to apply this method to a spam today. After fwd'ing the spam to SC I came to SC to report it and look for my address in the View Full Report. The Subject line was all nonsense, "=?GB2312?B?xOPP69KqtcTK1rHttb3By6OszNi5pNeo08N+KEFEKWVtYW5tYkB5YWhvby5j?= =?GB2312?B?b20=?=" and the body, which had my email address in the original in my email box was also just a long letter string so there was no need to strip out my address. Does SC somehow sense this and obfuscate the entire email? I realize that changing anything in the report is 'against the rules' but I'm torn between allowing my address to go out in the report vs not reporting vs stripping my address from the report. Thanks for any input.
  8. Unless they decide to take "revenge" on me! Thanks all, I'll stop worrying then.
  9. Well it seems to have been a temporary thing in my case and SC is performing as it should now. Go figger. I had recently changed the DNS settings here and thought "great, I screwed up something I know nothing about!". Things were acting up on different sites here with the toolbar in Yahoo mail not working to SC pages not working. Fortunately it seems OK now, SC and Yahoo are both as they should be. I get suspicious when multiple sites get weird over here. The quality of the internet could be worse, but is not as good as the US which is what I'm used to. I'm living here now, so I'll make do. At least it isn't Burma where there's barely any connectivity at all!
  10. OK now I'm getting pissed and it's not SC that's doing it. I live in Thailand where the internet is not free as in the US , Europe, etc. So sites can be blocked and infrastructure issues can mess up your day. That said, as a test, I used Tor browser just now, (which anonymizes one's IP so you can pretty much browse anonymously), on SC and I'm able to report with no issues. So my issue is, for whatever reason, that the reporting page doesn't load properly and when trying to get TO the reporting page, the gateway "times out". Yeah thanks True internet Thailand. Sorry guys, there's probably nothing you can do to help this issue. Tor browser is pretty slow to use so I only use it on "misbehaving" sites. These sites are usually totally innocuous and it is really getting my goat the way site behavior lately is totally random. I don't know if somehow SC reporting got on Thailand's blacklist, but if so, as usual they got it wrong.
  11. Assuming I'm understanding the issue being reported here, I'm having the same issue here in BKK with http://www.spamcop.net/mcgi?action=verifyl...p;returnurl=%2F just a blank page. According to Safari's Activity monitor, the gateway timed out. Getting the same blank page in Firefox as well. End result is fwd'ed spam cannot be parsed, or whatever you call what happens in there, when I click the report button.
  12. I've moved from the US to the other side of the planet. I used to use in addition to SC, KNUJON[at]COLDRAIN.NET, spam[at]uce.gov, phishing-report[at]us-cert.gov to report spams. Now that I'm outside the US, but using the same email addresses as I was when I lived there, should I continue to use those, or just use SC? Thanks!
  13. Nw that I have been given 16 MB of reporting juice from Cisco due to the last outage, I noticed there is a "User Notification" box on my reporting page. What is that for? Adding reporting addresses for links that weren't parsed? Sending things to friends? Myself? Anyway just curious if this is a function that I should use.

    Reporting problems today?

Except when the spam is too old to report once the system works for a brief moment!

    Reporting problems today?

I'm not even going to try submitting anymore until I see a post here that tells me SC is fixed as I would call SC "officially" broken although I'm not an official

    Reporting problems today?

It's down for me and has been for nearly a week or more giving me the "Gateway Timeout The proxy server did not receive a timely response from the upstream server. Reference #1.842d613a.1341546689.fce352e" message. At first I thought ok I'll fwd the spam and report that way instead of pasting it in the reporting box. I click the "Unreported spam Saved: Report Now" link and after about 2-5 mins. I get the "Gateway Timeout" message again. I continue to report to spam[at]uce.gov, knujon[at]coldrain.net, even though now I live in Bangkok. GL to the SC fixers!
  18. This is probably the best/easiest approach esp. for those who really want to report their spam, although spam which typically goes to the spam folder will have to be transferred to ones inbox to get to your client unless you include your spam folder in the client...just guessing there.
  19. This is what I do as well. Unfortunately the links in these emails are often missed by SC whether fwd'ed or pasted. There is no view source any more at least in my Yahoo. Also w/o being able to 'view source' html spam is either invisible or the links are embedded in type.
  20. I'm getting this message when trying to report spams. "Cannot send mail:smtpOpen: smtpsend connection error from smtp server (550 No expected reply from SMTP) Leave this page open and try 'reload' in a few minutes" I refresh the page later and SOMETIMES it works and report is sent but it isn't working presently.
  21. Received an email aim/netscape/aol thought was spam and sent to my spam folder. The header is so short that nothing can be reported and I'm wondering how this email even got to me with an incomplete header with no IP address? Is it indicative of the end of the world where Polish spammers can send mail with no means to trace or have spamcop do it's thing? If I hit reply, the "TO" column is blank! Anywho, I'm just curious about this one. Just Plain Annoying, SC

I never had a problem getting the source code accurately from Mac Mail. [command>option>U] Presently it's only web mail from hotmail and yahoo that's at issue for me. Hotmail opens a new window with the source code double spaced (thank you very much) and yahoo will only give you headers, so if there is an html only spam in yahoo, the body will be empty in the FWD and SC won't accept that at all. That is definitely a weak point of yahoo insofar as spam reporting goes.
  23. Been reporting for years to SC and come to forums now and then but now, either Yahoo or SC has changed the way they deal w/the headers in Yahoo reports so that I get the message: "error: couldn't parse head Message body parser requires full, accurate copy of message More information on this error.. no links found" Yes I read the more information page and NO I am not gonna sit there doing indentations in headers I barely understand as it is for every freakin spam in my yahoo box. It's enough work already to fwd spam, I figure I'm doing a "good thing", but any more work than what you see in my video is above and beyond. Calgon take me away! Isn't there an easy button for this nonsense?

    Just Plain Annoying, SC

I think this forum answers that question that 1, it's not possible and 2, what this guy said-->"HTTP 1.1 has been the standard version of HTTP for years. It was introduced back in 1999. Keep in mind, the first version of Safari came out in 2003. I doubt it supports, or ever supported, older versions of HTTP. They're that obsolete." If it was as simple as checking/unchecking a box, OK. I don't wanna spend another minute deciphering Geekanese just so I can report spam effectively, not that your post was at all difficult Farelf. But I spend enough time trying to do just that already. What would be nice is if SC could just be able to interpret the well intentioned reports in the formats we can provide without the user having to do backflips to do so.

    Just Plain Annoying, SC

OK now this applies to hotmail reports as well and is dang annoying. I have to right click the email in hotmail, get the source, cut and paste, THEN I have to remove the double spacing from the headers so SC can even begin to read it. OK so I've accepted that as a necessary evil but now getting 'can't parse header' BS for that report and the spam site links in the email go unreported. Why does SC have to make it so hard to make a report from common everyday yahoo and hotmail webmail sites? Can anything be done to broaden the range of readable headers?
