art101 says goodbye to the net

I'm to hear this, but I support your actions completely. Your auto-response is well written -- good job!

Julian Haight to debate Scott Richter!

Then maybe we should hand running of the debates back over to the League of Women Voters so they will let in more than two candidates to do the debating. oh, wait ... you were talking about the spam debate, huh.

What's that? We play dirty too?

ROFLMAO -- seriously! I had to pause it half way through just to post this and take a break from laughing. Well worth the download. Every SpamCop.net user should watch it.

Julian Haight to debate Scott Richter!

I'd actually like to see a debate in this country where debate means "the exchange and critique of logically sound arguments supported by properly cited information".
  6. at http://mailsc.spamcop.net/ there's this link: which leads to press releases, of course. I de-pdf'd one for y'all: from May 12, 2004
  7. It should be illegal (under CAN-spam* or another law) to send anything except website/email related messages to the webmaster[at]… or postmaster[at]… addresses associated with a domain. I know sending to those addresses is covered in a roundabout way, but I just wish it were explicit. Sorry, just needed to vent. * which (obviously) I don't really like anyway.

damn haven't got any "thousands of legitimate live email addresses for only pennies" offers in a while -- I could pass on that wonderful offer to you for use in publicizing the petition

Quite a bit of printed material could be said to have been "highjacked by thugs and racketeers" as well.

    How to turn off Mailhosts

It would be nice if someone would post (in this thread) a link to instructions on "How to turn off Mailhosts" (presumably already posted in the forums), in case someone stumbles accross this thread looking to actually reverse the mailhosts process.
  13. Sorry to just cut in without reading the whole thread, but I, too, notice that my mailhosts have "odd" names. I deduced while adding them that they are named by the first user to add the hosts. The mailhosts really should get some more official names. My specific example is that the mailhost named (in Spamcop) "Award" should really be named "Ventures Online" (or "Data393 / Huge Hosting / Ventures Online", since I cannot tell if the mailhost names just IPs/hosts from Ventures Online, or from the recently merged 3 companies). background info: Three Colorado Hosting Companies Merge Into One

    Safer and More Secure Computing

I have added the first and last entry from petzl's signature to my post (above) ---- * I changed it from "v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp" to the version-unspecified "windowsupdate.microsoft.com". ** "Block spamvertised websites" (this is "IE-SPYAD" in the topmost post in this topic) should now have the URL https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm instead of the one used in the quoted signature above.

spam King Wins One for Spammers (I like how the link goes to spamcop .com, not .net) oh, and the petition should be edited in to the first post in this thread http://www.petitiononline.com/gt78mt5e/petition.html

I'm glad you used this service, I was going to recommend it. http://www.petitiononline.com/
  19. oh, I see. Sorry, my mistake. I misunderstood what you said.
  20. Actually, you can run them by clicking the little "funnel" picture, but its usually only available if you have it set to not run filters at login (though you can override the default and have filters run at login, and when you click the icon). Also you'd want to enable the filters to run on any folder.
  21. I don't know if this is good or bad, but it's news... MSN, Hotmail fight spam using Bonded Sender
  22. I'm seriously going to look into this. Intriguing idea.
