    Is this blocked email?

I've been getting a lot of bounced emails out of one email account, my ebay account. They stay stuff like this: Failed to deliver to 'xxx[at]msn.com' SMTP module(domain msn.com) reports: mx4.hotmail.com: no response Failed to deliver to 'xxx[at]xxx.com' SMTP module(domain xxx.com) reports: jools.xxx.com: Bad SMTP prompt at the host I can send mail to these same address from my other email account, no problem. Is this some kind of spam blocking thing? Sarina

    ARG! Mail is blocked! HELP!

I will get to the rest of the posts in a sec, or at least get the mail thing fixed when directair opens, but I wanted to respond to this. Every 'email setup' directions I've ever seen says to set them up the way mine are set up now, with mail.mywebaccount.com for ingoing and outgoing. So it's not fair to say I don't know how to correctly set up a mail account when I've had at least 5 (more than 5 actually) mail hosts tell me to do it that way. As far as the problem being me, my understanding thorugh all this is that it was the ISP. Then it wasn't the ISP, it was the host. Then a couple other things thrown in. That's what was so confusing. Now it's ME. Well, I haven't done anything new, it just recently stopped working. I have been using mail.sw*.com for YEARS, set up just the way it is now. It started on its own server, then I forwarded it for a while, then put it back to it's own server, on this new hosting company. THEN the problem started. Also, if I need to change to directairnet for my email thing, why the heck are three of my accounts still working fine? Sarina

    ARG! Mail is blocked! HELP!

I have 5 email accounts. Under 'servers' and outgoing mail for each account it says: Acct 1: mail.b*wy.com <--- this one is a domain forwarded acct, hosted on acct 3 server. Acct 2: mail.j*hot.com <---Also fowarded, hosted on acct 3 server. Acct 3: mail.je*.com <---hosted with storefront.net Acct 4: mail.sw*.com <---has own host, but same hosting acct as 5 - Blocked Acct 5: mail.cats*.com <has own host, same hosting acct as 4. - Blocked - both hosted with ixwebhosting.com I put stars in for privacy, not that some people couldn't find it anyway, I suppose... Accts 4 and 5 are the affected ones. Sarina How do I set up outlook express with the domaindirect email, but still have all 5 emails look like they are coming from mail.myacct.com? I know first i have to get an email account from direct air. I have to reconfigure my phone mail too. Grr. Sarina

    ARG! Mail is blocked! HELP!

I'm using Outlook Express. My thought is maybe I ought to find a new hosting service for the two blocked emails/sites. Because ever since I switched hosting (I get to host two sites with one account with that hosting service, so I picked those two. I don't use them for much, mostly entertainment.) I am bombarded with spam daily. So I imagine that has something to do with me being blocked. I used to have domain forwarding and never had this problem, and was still using mail.mywebsite.com to get mail. The host I am using now is el cheapo. When you say 'how is it set up' I'm not sure exactly what you mean. They are all set up like this: Incoming: mail.mywebsitename.com Outgoing: mail.mywebsitename.com with a password. The authentication is the same as outgoing mail server. Who set up my web servers? The hosting company I guess. All I do is put up a few pictures in frontpage and hit save. How it gets up there is beyond me. I don't want to put MyUserName[at]directairnet.com to send mail, I want to use my website name. That's why I don't want to change it to mail.directairnet.com Besides, I tried it once and it didn't work. Probably because I dno't have a mail account with them. Just internet access. Thanks for helping me, Sarina Moderator edit: email address munged to remove actual user name.

How is it wrong? It's mail.mywebsite.com they're ALL that way, with each website having its own mail. 5 websites, 5 email address. Only two are bad. So what exactly is wrong! SW

    ARG! Mail is blocked! HELP!

Can someone translate this for me please! This is from the ISP: This is not our email server, you send to mail.directairnet.com, which is 63.227.167.31, which is not in theie spam database, the reason 209.181.18.177 is listed #1 as it is not a email server its our firewall which your behind, you should be sending through mail.directairnet.com which is 63.227.167.31, #2 reason as in powell there are many systems their that are infected with worms, a worm tries to act as its own email server which is why our firewall is banned, which is no big deal our email server will accept it anyway, however if you are trying to act as a email server sending out you would run into trouble, or if the web hosting company you are using is using spamcop and stops you from using their mail server, well it will stop it, if (yourwebmail).com is stopping your email you need to contact them and tell them to allow 209.181.18.177 in their white list or anytime a powell customer gets a worm or virus your going to be banned, again for normal customers this is not a issue as our mail server is a completly different address, and most customers dont become a mail server or send to a outside mail server unless they have a worm, I use spamcop myself, its not our servers that are blocking you, as you said 209.181.18.177 is our firewall they are blocking you from sending to them Now it's a firewall. GRR! SW This is the error message: The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'email[at]aol.com'. Subject 'Re: (no subject)', Account: 'mail.yourwebmail.com', Server: 'mail.yourwebmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '451 Blocked - see http://www.spamcop.net/bl.shtml?209.181.18.177', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 451, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Back up for about two minutes and then listed again. Great! I called DirectAir, they said it's IXWebhosting. IXWebhosting says it's DirectAir. Yippee! And *I* still can't send mail. So glad to see the spammers are still spamming away! I guess without them, there would be no need for spamcop! Gosh, I havne't been able to send mail from those two accounts for about two weeks now! Yippeee! They still get lots of spam though. Yeeeeaaaaahhhh! You really need the cheerleader smilie. BTW, I sent directair a link to these threads. With one of my emails that's actually still working. I don't know if anyone will actually stop in, but if they do, maybe you can make some sense to them, because I sure don't get it. I mean, if you're goign to block somebody, you might try blocking spammers. Let THEM deal with this BS, they're the ones sending spam! Someday I would like to be unblocked again so I can send mail. It's not spamcop, it's not directair, it's not IXwebhosting, it's not my computer. What a freakin' ordeal! THIS SUX! SW

Gads, talk about lifeless! You actually looked me up on the internet! I'd be flattered, but who cares. Why don't you use your sleuthing skills and figure out a better way to block spammers? Because this crap doesn't work! SW

I'm blocked again. Oh, I know the spiel! Spamcop didn't do it, it's the ISP, it's the receiving email person, etc, etc. Brother. Good thing the spammers can still send mail, what would we do without them! If the actual spammers get blocked, they don't care, they just move on to a new server. It's people like me that get blocked and have to start complaing. Thanks Spamcop! SW Moderator Edit: Merged the "new" Topic-starting post into the previous massive Topic/Discussion, where apparently not a lot was 'learned' .... PM sent to advise of the Move/Merge ....

    ARG! Mail is blocked! HELP!

Here's another problem. Somebody is using my '[at]mydomain.com' to send mail. I am not sending these message, there's nothing in my outbox or sent mail. But I am getting back bounced messages with an email saying something like maeheer2[at]mydomain.com with some weird subject sent an email to a no good email address. Of course I have no such mailbox by that name. And I don't even know why they are bouncing back to that mailbox, since it's not a catch-all, it should only be getting mail to me[at]mydomain.com I get about three a day. Sarina www.storefront.net and domaindirect.com I have accounts with them. domaindirect is email only, storefront I actually have a storefront hosting/email with them. Sarina

    ARG! Mail is blocked! HELP!

My mail has been working, the ISP has no idea what happened that I know of. I guess the guy that is supposed to be watching it was gone that particular weekend and something happened. The secretary suggetsted I had a virus that was causing the problem. Oy vey. No one ever called me back. I think a couple cowboys found a server and plugged it in. I pay $75 a month for that, believe it or not. My question is: I am using directair.com for my ISP. I don't have any stmp mail things with them, all my mail accounts go with various websites that are hosted at ixwebhosting, domaindirect and storefront. The two affected accounts last week were the two ixwebhosting accounts. The email accounts are all mail.domainname.com Directair is just the ISP. I use outlook express if that means anything. So I was told if I have a dedicated server I won't have this problem, even if I just connect with direct air. But it seems to me that I am just connecting with directair now, to my various mailboxes. My goal is to keep this from happening again without spending $100 a month on a dedicated server. I'm confused on a couple of points. thanks for suggestions, and sorry I got so feisty in my other thread, you know, it was kind of a rough day. SW

Oh, and one more thing. I love how this is eeeeverybody's fault except spamcop. It's the ISP, it's the mail server, it's the spammers. Spamcop didn't do a thing! Oh, well, except put out some magical list that blocks everyone except spammers and can only be undone by who knows who because I still can't send email through outlook express. I get to wait until Monday because my lazy ISP is closed weekends. Hmmm... well, if this stupid spam block list didn't exist, (hey genius! You can hit delete and get rid of spam, did you know that? It's MUCH easier!) it wouldn't be an issue. Oh, and did you read our 450 volume FAQ? the 'before you post' post? How about War and Peace? You can't get your mail and you're losing money by the second, but who cares? Read it anyway! It's not going to help a thing, but it will keep you busy long enough, hopefully your email will be working again - excuse me - maybe your ISP, or mail server or local wizard will have called the magic fairys and it will be three weeks from now and you might be able to send mail through that server again and you won't come in to the forum and complain! Then you say there are so many like me that come in with the same issue. Well, maybe we have a point. Ever think of that? Maybe your spamcop BS doesn't WORK. You're BLOCKING the WRONG PEOPLE. According to your own site, the spammers are still spamming away! You say you have a right not to get spam. That's nice. I have a right to send email! How about that! When I signed up for this forum, the authorization ended up in the 'spam' folder. Pretty ironic, isn't it. SW

Maybe Meg Whitman should call me 50x a day every time I sell something on ebay, that would be oh so convenient. And customers can call in their questions and call me when they make payment so I have to sit by my phone 24 hours a day. Yes, you're right, soooo much better than email! What WAS I thinking! I have a whole new respect for spammers after this. I get lots of spam mail and I always thought I wish I could get rid of it. Now that I know what THAT entails, I'd rather just hit delete! Thank you computer gods for the delete button! That is way easier than dealing with the spamcop blacklist! I will enjoy hitting delete after this ordeal. Not only that, the spammers seem to be the only ones that can still send mail through that server! Your service stinks. SW
