    reporting sites?

It's much easier to just paste the spamvertized URL into the parsing window, and use the resulting email address in your manual report. ...Son of a gun! It worked! I thought the parser needed headers!

    Troubleshooting Bri's PC

Hi, Bri, ...It's probably easy to write a Word Macro (in VBA, Visual Basic ® for Applications) that accesses CDO and sends e-mails to everyone in your contact list. Perhaps that's what's happening? W97M.Melissa.M mm.html]W32.Dotor.A[at]mm W97.Melissa.A W97M.Melissa.A WM.ShareFun.A ...These are the first five hits I got by doing a search for "word macro virus send email" at http://www.symantec.com/search/ with check boxes "Viruses, Trojan horses, Worms and Macros" and "Vulnerabilities and Exploits". The search results reported "31,188 results found." ...And another I found by doing a search at www.microsoft.com: New Variant of the Melissa Virus

    reporting sites?

Hi, Piscator! ...Are you receiving this 'spamvertizing' via e-mail or some other mode? ...If it's e-mail, then (if I understand correctly) SpamCop reports any spamvertized web sites it finds in the body of the e-mail you are reporting to the abuse desk of the web server but does not include those sites on its blocklist. ...Errata: please ignore the following I posted in my original reply (in gray); it is all wrong; Instead, see the below from JeffG posted on Feb 25 2004, 10:11 PM EST. If it's not e-mail, then it may be permissable to fake out SpamCop's parser (the first part of the reporting process) by generating what appears to be an e-mail with a body that contains the spamvertized links, but then cancel the report without submitting it. Perhaps a kind deputy (or other knowledgeable member) passing through here would be able to verify or deny this.

    Is everyone else getting spammered?

Hi, Hills! ...Spammered ... hammered with spam -- I like it! ...No, I doubt it's just you. Although the number I've received seems rather smaller in the past 12 hours than it was earlier in the week. ...Not likely!

    I reported myself?

Hi, Jay, indicates my server, and that's what I reported? If so, how did the email originate from me? I have up to date virus software and use adaware, spybot and spyware guard, so I don't think I've been infected and sent out emails. Please have a bit more patience with me and lead me by the hand with this. Thanks much, Jay ...Yep, it's easy to get confused -- no need to apologize, IMHO. ...Here's the deal, as I understand it: You received an e-mail that you considered to be spam You (logged in as 711636910 <at> reports.spamcop.net) reported it via SpamCop The SpamCop parser became confused due to an odd line (as referenced by Wazoo) and sent the spam report to the abuse desk of your e-mail provider (abuse[at]axxs.net) ...Does that help?

    Troubleshooting Bri's PC

Hi, Bri! There are other file extensions / reasons for it, that one was just the most obvious. Any clues on other reasons? Or is this a trade secret :-) ...Assuming you are running some flavor of Microsoft Windows (not sure what happens in a Mac or unixen environment): ...Do you have an anti-virus program that allows you to add file extensions to the list of files to be scanned, such as Norton AV? If so, there's a list of common "dangerous" extensions there. ...Essentially, double-clicking any file that has an extension which is associated with an application will generally open that application.

    Blacklisted again

Hi, Robert! ...Sorry to hear that you've been blacklisted (but even sorrier if it is true that the server you use for outgoing mail is being used by spammers, which is likely the case if you've been listed twice in 4 business days). ...Please have a look at Pinned: FAQ Entry: Why is my email blocked? and the links therein to see if it helps clear things up for you. If after reading it you still have questions, please do come back here to post them. ...Good luck!

    Puzzled and probably stupid

Hi, Geoff! ...No, you seem to have come to exactly the right place! ...Regarding 209.68.1.150, my guess would be that your e-mail is not going through that server, or that it is another server along the route that is on the SpamCop BL. ...Perhaps the information posted at Pinned: FAQ Entry: Why is my email blocked? will help you. If not, please come back here with any additional questions.

    Banned But No Link-Back

Indeed, the forum is excellent, supportive and broadens one's perspective. It reminds me of something called 'The Reflecting Team' which is an up-to-date tool used by Family Therapists. Do constructive ideas expressed here in terms of product development get taken up? They probably will be, but the Forums are still too new to tell. Not yet - the Forums are still too new. ...Also, we don't always get direct notice from TPTB in these forums, although JT (SpamCop e-mail service and support of these forums) seems to do quite a bit.
