  1. justbrilliant Your windows computer is secure right? My signature points to free resources for you to make it so Ad-Aware is also good for checking on spyware suggest one use both (get latest definitions) IF bigpond have had port 25 blocked, then they have had no affect? Bigpond have a notoriety of being stupid and expensive

    Too many links, links ignored

when this happens to me I just open the spam and get the REAL spam URL link and add its abuse addresses to the report no big deal? I have latest Virus scanner and a (software) firewall also scan for spybots wih Ad-aware and "Search & destroy"
  3. I have found Norton often jams "POP" after doing its "live update" and a reboot is reqired Are you using Norton/symantec?
  4. Amazing how comcast survive? Bigpond are noted as incompetent blocking port 25 is a smart move

    Brand New Here

Start here to check your setup < http://mail.spamcop.net/tips.php> and here <http://mail.spamcop.net/setup/setup.php> After doing that consider this Suggested setup for a start (1) Log in using your FULL spamcop email address here <http://webmail.spamcop.net/horde/imp> (2) click "Options" at top of page (3) in box "Mail Management" click "SpamCop Tools" (4) click "Select your email filtering blacklists." (5) uncheck box "Block All " and check all the boxes in box "DNS Blacklist" and click "Blue Button" "Modify" underneath I find that blacklist "dnsbl.sorbs.net" is for me agressive. You may uncheck any blacklist that is causing to many false positives (the Whitelist overides these blacklists. But will not override Virus detection Virus are deleted. You can turn notification of this off) (6) have your provider forward your email to your spamcop address (7) Setup your email client to collect (POP3) your email from spamcop. In the POP3 box of your email client remove the one you have there and replace with "pop.spamcop.net" (7a)You NOW need to whitelist your providers email servers for reporting spam (include your SpamCop email address). To do this go here and follow instructions (you logon with full email address and password) <http://mailsc.spamcop.net/mcgi?action=mhedit> If you have multiple email addresses you just need to submit one email for that domain (this is done to get around spammers forging headers) (7b) If you use IMAP to access your email, please use the following names: spamcop.net customers: imap.spamcop.net You can disable "auto polling". If you do not a bell will ring every time a message hits your "held folder" (8) Success you should now have all mail caught by filters in your held folder with only legitimate email in your inbox (9)For logging into held folder <http://mailsc.spamcop.net/reportheld?action=heldlog> This will allow you to forward and whitelist innocents and Toast the guilty at a simple click of the mouse button I would suggest you use password software for bettter security for logging in http://www.password-depot.com/download.htm This is basically freeware for 20 passwords/URLs It also works flawlessly from a USB drive (good for shared computers) Lockable by two wo completly different encryption methods (Blowfish AND Rjindael) You then disable your personal computer to remember passwords and login (always uncheck this option on shared computers) ****************** To contact SpamCop go here <http://mail.spamcop.net/> <http://mail.spamcop.net/contact.php> ***************************

    Won't use spamcop much longer

I'm in Australia and going over my email I do not see SpamCops blocklist hitting any?
  7. SpamCop may not be your cup of tea? Ideally SpamCops filters should be keeping your inbox spam free with no false positives (i.e. all spam captured is spam). This is what happens for me and a great many others Just a quick check of your VER folder and selecting "Quick Report and immediately trash" is usually all you have to do. Suggest you use "mole" reporting to stop spammers revenge attacking. The first thing you should do is set your "Whitelist" I often have whole domains whitelisted (if not a common spammer return address like hotmail.com etc) Also if you are finding one of the Filters too aggressive turn it off (like "dnsbl.sorbs.net") or uncheck it Look at the headers of received email to see if any of SpamCops filters are picking it up and it will give you an idea of what's taking place I usually full report spammers in an effort to remove their websites which I see as a better deterrent, but I have my laptop set up by my lounge chair and TV

    Sunk friends web site?

Finally happened Received an email from "Bear" bear[at]123.x saying new Bear site and email address Did get my first name right as a lot of spammers do ? For me email did not ring a bell. I had never heard of bear site and thinking it spam, reported it (I did not check the link). To work out that this was not spam I did a google search which the caches show what it was. This is what made it clear that email was not spam (After Ellen contacted me) Turns out to be a genuine email from a anti-airport expansion group/person which I have concerns about and do get the odd email (about once a year or less from) straight away "ipowerweb" a domain registrar shut his site down? Been down since Friday "ipowerweb" claim they had several reports There is only one SpamCop report which is mine (I have sent emails to the abuse desk admitting my erroneous reporting) I do admit that the email looked spammy and it may be that there were a number of manual spam reports sent from outside of SpamCop (He had only posted 5 during emails the week) Any ideas on how to better remedy the situation I suspect this is more common than admitted where miss-identfied "legit" email is spam. I have other friends which often send strange emails but I always check address and name (This one threw me off because the return address and site ended in .com, but email came from com.au (telstra 144.140.71.21) which is listed in "dnsbl.sorbs.net" (spamtraps) this again makes me check as there are a lot of false positives with sorbs particualy with spamtraps (spammers are bouncing email to spamtraps? which suggests not all bounces conform to a standard for them to get listed)

Germans no sense of humor Another advantage of learning to "fly" in Australia is cost. The booze here is great quality as two Belgium Pilots found out crashing their Aircraft in a poor sods driveway (Camden) while he was refueling his boat!! Killed his dog Dwain though (springer spaniel) I often see these low life flying hoons at gum tree level

    Sunk friends web site?

In my defense the email was from Bear? advising that "Bear site and email" updated? Would you not believe this to be spam? Before this the Email's were from a full first Last Name with a familiar email address never heard it called Bear site before? The Registrars claimed that there were several complaints? Only one came from SpamCop (mine) People do still (I suppose) report outside SpamCop and there would be those that want this site down? The webpage is up I believe because of pressure from SpamCop It is a problem where a Airport is ever increasing (Now southern hemispheres largest and growing) with all sorts of loons allowed to crash into local houses regularly also an unchecked drinking Pilot problem!! I know "Kevin" is a good guy and would never spam.

Server timing out when reporting spam

Try asking your provider? I'm in Australia and to report a spam tacks around a second or two
  14. BigPond/Telstra have a very bad record of being spam tolerant, recently being offline for months because of their incompetence. Iprimus so far are a better option If you would give an IP address that is on SpamCops sorting/blocklist people would get a better idea of what's happening (SpamCop does not list email addresses) If your IP is on SpamCops list it means you are spamming or have a security problem. This needs to be addressed by you and quickly. SpamCop is a software program that accurately lists spamsources and delists when spam stops

    blacklist threats, help!

SpamCop would not send threats. This is a spammer fraud tactic just report such frauds through SpamCops spam reporting to see where this rubbish is comming from. SpamCop is a "BOT" that just tries to find the source IP of spam and blocks it automatically if "tripped" If your computer is "SpyBot" free and secure with a firewall with no as in zero open proxies it cannot be hijacked. "SpyBot's" can be installed by anyone just by clicking a "*.exe" file Windows by default hides extensions such as exe(?) and files are sent like flowers.JPG.exe and a user sees this as flowers.JPG (the exe is hidden) It would help if you provided an IP or headers of offending email (you should mung email addresses it, replaced by (X) instead of xx[at]xx.xx ) Also read my sig

    Respectful request for assisstance

SpamCop does not report bounce messages and rejects any attempt for one to use SpamCop for this purpose. A person circim navigating SpamCop for this purpose is likley to be fined and or expelled for doing so http://www.spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/14.html You would have a security problem or be a spam source if listed by SpamCop However I cannot see any of the IP's as presently listed? A couple have been sending spam to spamtraps? So unless spamcop is silently reporting bounces? Which SpamCop should not be! SpamCop can detect bounce messages and disregard them?) 216.127.136.199 216.127.136.203 Been detected sending mail to spam traps 216.127.136.204 Been detected sending mail to spam traps 216.127.136.223
  17. If its a website there would be no list? It may of been "Joe Jobbed" by a spammer who has included this site (or pictures from that site) in their spam. If this is the case you need to get a copy of report from your upstairs and email deputies to list your site as a "innocent bystander". If you have a report there will be a link to do this yourself If you are on SpamCops blocklist for your email server you have a security problem (or are a spammer) and would need to know the IP address to look at it and advise further or read Miss Betsy's rendition

    Reverse NDR Spam

This person has not given us any clue as to what they are on about or any of the supposed afflicted IP address (yes we get spammers often proclaiming innocence) SpamCop does not allow bounces to be reported? SpamCop looks for originating IP to be blocked. They have a misconfigured server and are blaming SpamCop the messenger It would help if this person gave some info to check? A blocked IP number would help correct their problem It is obvious they have misconfigured something and wrongly blaming SpamCop

    Why Am I Blocked FAQ

Miss Betsy I would say the problem is that a number of know nothing do nothing "abuse" desks start complaining about what they term" SpamCop" spam (been there done that) The best way to deal with a open network (or open computer) is to format all their spam spewing drives and leave those drives with 20 alphanumeric password protected (this stops them spamming and something I am cosidering doiing! I've had enough If someone like Comcast does not mind insecure networks fine I hope they realize what information I do not decide to copy and post in newsgroups (Passwords credit card details etc) Then find they have to buy new drives for their servers fine and suits me.

    Why Am I Blocked FAQ

SpamCop notifies the ISP when they get listed for sending email to spamtraps, but only when listed not before If responsive and they fix their security problem SpamCop will very quickly delist Miss Betsy's rendition is fine. However I feel being nice to people who end up on SpamCops "Blocklist" need to be spoken to more aggressively and straight to the no nonsense point Trying to be "polite" seems to infer to many of these loons that it is SpamCop at fault when SpamCop is but a service. Stating in no uncertain terms to these no nothing loons that any provider that gets listed, has been listed because of their own doing/incompetancy and no one else's Whether or not they like it The only listings that happen is because of no response or action to abuse reports. Which are sent for each and every spam! It is not an excuse or SpamCops doing if their "upstairs" do not inform them of problems (FIRST stop paying these "drongo's" get a provider that WILL provide a service) It is now ridiculous that out of every 1000 emails recieved one is legitimate (One now has to be ready to "avert one's eyes")! The rest is spamvertised filth and or fraud (If on a SpamCop Blocklist talk to your provider and demand your money back. That is all these ISP credit Card milking creeps are about)

    Why Am I Blocked FAQ

If you are on SpamCop's blocklist it is simply because your ISP does not care and you should look for another provider SpamCop contacts the listed address of ISP long before any lengthy listing so your provider again does not care and is either not getting abuse reports or ignores them The reason a provider (or credit card milker) does not get reports is simply that they have a misconfigured network and one you should not trust to send email Many of these clown ISP's eventually come to SpamCop newsgroups and threaten (cartoony) legal action about the messenger who has advised them of their (at best) messed up misconfigured network. Or they are simply spammer friendly in both cases SpamCop is simply and effectivly doing what SpamCop members subscribe for. That's to produce an effective spam sorter/filter which sorts spam as and while a spammer is sending spam and when spam stops the IP is released (The SpamCop Filter is not a blocklist). SpamCop does this magnificently stopping porn, fraud and other sleaze from hitting ones in box (again while being sent not after)

    Reverse NDR Spam

SpamCop does not report bounces so your whole argument is baseless If you are not a spammer you have a security problem with your network. It only takes an employee (or yourself) to open a "exe" file and your computer becomes a slave zombie for one to do what ever (format hard drive even) Of course it may be your set-up is misconfigured without an IP to go by we do not know if you are even truthful

    yourbuddy trolling 6

SpamCop Mail uses the alleged "blocklists" to sort email into inbox and probable spam folder. None of these lists are actually anything but a "sortlist" nothing is bounced Out of interest try making a 8 Alphanumeric Hotmail throwaway address and send an email to a comcast user Then watch comcast mail bomb that account with spam! This is all Comcast presently are doing all over the planet out of a 100 emails from Comcast all 100 are spam. Often pornographic, bank fraud, software piracy, etc. I for one do not wish to see this and SpamCop puts with absolute accuracy for me in a folder to be checked and if need be automatically reported (ComCast are ignoring these reports)

    SPEWS Listing All Comcast Subscribers

I block them!If NOBODY from comcast IP's can send me email suits me fine. So far 100% of all email from Comcasts IP's to me has been spam and is all reported as it has been for some time only to be ignored by Comcast I personally do not want email from comcast ever! I as I said before I hope their customers do the right thing and leave My only concern about the SPEWS listing is it was far too slow in happening
