Non-technically fluent end user who came to SpamCop when she got one too many porn spam. Learned how to access the newsgroup for help (one of those who didn't know how to Forward as Attachment) and stayed to help others who are overwhelmed by the jargon.

The 'almost new' refers to both my age and my technical expertise. Although I have learned how to read simple headers, look up abuse addresses, and understand the difference between rejecting at the server and sending an email bounce after acceptance, there are still tremendous gaps in my knowledge of how email and the internet work.

I hang around because I am convinced that if enough end users understood about blocklists and chose competent, responsible ISPs, the spam would be controlled so that no one who didn't want spam would get it and legitimate email would rarely be affected.

Blocklists, including the SpamCop bl, are the natural way to control spam since they are the equivalent of Miss Manners' method of the 'cut direct' for badly behaving people. The Internet is controlled by netiquette and the way to operate successfully is to be 'polite.'
