My Reporting Account Has Been Suspended
If you are wondering why your
SpamCop Reporting Account has been
suspended, the most likely reason will be because you have not properly
configuered Mail-Hosts. Even though the use of MailHosts is not required to set up a SpamCop reporting account, it has been stated
"We would like *everyone* to be using MailHosts." It is a mandatory requirement for the re-instatement of any reporting account that has been suspended. Account suspensions are the normal result of sending
reports to wrong address, which are often the result of
SpamCop parser getting fooled by a forgery. usually because the spammer forged an
IANA reserved
IP address, or as a result of reporting ones own service provider (
ISP).
When mailhosts for your account is missing or not properly set up, it is possible for the parser to be fooled by a forged header and accept the
IP address in the forged header as the injection point. The IP may have been an invalid/unassigned/reserved IP or it may have been a legit IP and the recipient of the report wrote to '
SpamCop pointing out the forged header.
The
SpamCop defense against being fooled by forgeries is the Mailhost system, which lists the user's service providers so that the parse can accurately pinpoint the true source of the
spam because it knows who the good guys are when it parses the headers of your spam.
To request that the suspension be lifted, simply complete the
MailHost Configuration process. After you have completed this process, send an email to service@admin.spamcop.net and request that your reporting account be unlocked. Be sure to include your reporting account name (email address) and the fact that you have completed the MailHost configuration process for ALL of your email accounts. It would be helpful to also include a copy of the email notifiying you of the account suspension.
