SMTP-AUTH
SMTP-AUTH extends
SMTP (the Internet e-mail transmission protocol) to include an authentication step through which the client effectively logs in to the mail server during the process of sending mail. Servers which support SMTP-AUTH can usually be configured to require clients to use this extension, ensuring the true identity of the sender is known. SMTP-AUTH is defined in
RFC2554∞.
It is available as part of the
SpamCop Flat Rate E-Mail Service
- Outgoing service is not to be used for high volumes. Please don't put your whole office on it, send to your 1000-user mailing list, etc. It's a privilege, not a right. Any abuse will result in your access being cut off instantly with no warnings.
To use it, use the following settings:
SMTP server: smtp.cesmail.net
SMTP port: 25 (default) or 587 if your ISP blocks port 25
SMTP authentication must be enabled. Use your regular spamcop.net username and password you always use.
SSL tends to NOT work for most users, though there are some that say it does work for them.
If you are having trouble getting SMPT authentication to work, make sure that SSL is turned off.
Also please remember that your user name is your entire email address - ie myname@spamcop.net
It would appear the the newer version of SSL, which is
TSL, does work with SpamCop's SMTP.
