Additions:
~~-Fuel is consumed each time you parse a message through your premium SpamCop.net account. Each byte in the message will consume one byte of fuel. While the paid reporting only system is still relatively new, early estimates are that 15 MB of fuel will last most users two years. (This was written back in 1998, long before the spammers went wild!)

Deletions:

Edited on 2008-07-07 21:53:59 by DbieL [Added IP and URL history access available to paid reporters]

Additions:
~~~-Access to the database to check the history of any IP address or URL for the past 90 days; It does not provide any details or totals, but it does provide a list of the dates, reportid, and subjects of each spam that has been reported(source).
Note: (Flat rate) Mail Service Subscribers are considered paid reporters and have access to all the features available to those with a separate paid reporting account.
  • Mail Service Subscribers have a reporting account attached to their mail account that has all the features of a paid reporting account plus some additional reporting features that are part of the VER interface, which includes Quick Reporting without the need to request special access.
    Additions:
    ~~-SpamCop will revoke access to the reporting service, attached to their SpamCop Email Account, for subscribers to the flat rate mail system who break reporting rules. Subscriber's use of the mail service will be unaffected, except that they will no longer be able to access the attached reporting system.
    Deletions:
    ~~-SpamCop will revoke access to the reporting service, attached to their SpamCop Email Account, for subscribers to the flat rate mail system who break reporting rules. Subscribers may then continue to use the mail service but are not be able to use the reporting system.
    SpamCop Reporting Accounts
  • Free Reporting Service Users:
    • To sign up for the free parsing and reporting service, simply provide a valid email address here. In a few minutes you will receive an email at that address showing your username (your email address) and a temporary password. The email will also contain links to the SpamCop.net pages where you can log in.
    • SpamCop will ban users of the free reporting service who violate the rules.
    • Note: in the past, free accounts were actually a completely separate type of account. Today this has changed. Today the difference is identified as having "fuel" or not. A free account can be converted to a paid account simply by purchasing "fuel", which can be done at any time. When a paid account runs out of "fuel" it automaticly reverts to a free account. So today they are both considered a single Account Type. A free account can be used indefinately. There are not time restrictions or pressures to convert to a paid account. Yes, there is the following, perpetual, nag / reminder:
      Add fuel to your account
      Please help support this service - buy some reporting fuel today. Fuel is used as you report spam to bypass the nag screen.
      But that is all that it is, a request to help support the service. There is no obligation to do so and many long time users / supporters / continue to use a free reporting account. There are some advantages to converting to a paid account, but the choice to pay, or not to pay, remains yours to make, as you personally decide.
  • Paid Reporting (Premuim) / (Fuel) Service Members:
    • A premium account gives you access to more features on SpamCop.net than are available to free reporting users. These features include:
      • The option to appeal a website/URL issue in parsed spam that you find has been incorrectly reported as 'closed' or an innocent bystander
    • Fuel is consumed each time you parse a message through your premium SpamCop.net account. Each byte in the message will consume one byte of fuel. [s]While the paid reporting only system is still relatively new, early estimates are that 15 MB of fuel will last most users two years.[/s] (This was written back in 1998, long before the spammers went wild!)
    • To upgrade to a premium SpamCop.net account, you must first sign up for and verify a free account. Then, from your SpamCop.net access page, simply click on the "Preferences" link and "Add Fuel" to your account. The "Add fuel to your account" link also appears near the top of the "Report Spam" Screen, just below Your average reporting time listing.
    • SpamCop may fine, suspend or terminate the accounts of paid members who violate the rules.
  • (Flat rate) Mail Service Subscribers:
    • Tired of spam? For several years, SpamCop.net has been the #1 tool on the internet for reporting spammers to the ISP's they use to send their email and host their websites. Now, we're giving individuals, companies, and ISP's the power to take control of their email by leveraging the experience we have accumulated, along with the largest database of in-progress spam around, to filter out spam. Finally, you can read your email again without being accosted for advertisements for gambling, pyramid scams, and pornography. For more information, please see Welcome to the SpamCop Email System
    • SpamCop will revoke access to the reporting service, attached to their SpamCop Email Account, for subscribers to the flat rate mail system who break reporting rules. Subscribers may then continue to use the mail service but are not be able to use the reporting system.
    • In addition, your ISP account allows you to spot-check any IP address for recent reports.
