SpamCop Reporting Choices After Parsing
The following deals with the choices available after
parsing an email message using the
SpamCop parser.
Other related topics are listed at the bottom of this page.
After the
SpamCop Parser has done its job of
parsing the submitted data and it has found one or more recipients to send
reports to, you are provided with several choices yielding different results. Note: some of the choices and there results are not as apparent as others.
- Clickable buttons:
- Send Spam Report(s) Now
This one does exactly what it says, It sends reports to all the recipients where the check box is checked. If you do not what to send a
report to one or more of the recipients, simply uncheck the box in front of the address.
- Preview Reports
This one does not act the way most people would like when left clicking on it. It is better to right click and open in a new window. When you are finished with the preview, simply close the window. If you left click, you are given the following warning:
SpamCop - your complaint has not been sent.
CLICK YOUR BROWSER'S BACK BUTTON TO SEND REPORTS!
Clicking on the "Back" button, unfortunately, resets the default
parser settings, deleting any Additional notes entered; erasing the optional User Notification address (if entered); and resetting the check boxes to there original state.
- Cancel
It does what it says, but not in the way you might think. It displays the following information:
Reports Canceled
It does cancel the ability to send any reports regarding the submitted message, but it also creates an entry in the "Past Reports" file that looks like:
2057846690 ( ) ( not sent - stats only ) To: cancelled@devnull.spamcop.net
which worded differently might read: "Send to the Trash Can" see: devnulling
- Suspend or Abandon the Reports
This one is not so apparent. It is done by simply closing the browser window prior to clicking on either
Send Spam Report(s) Now or
Cancel. The result is that the message will remain in the report queue and can be re-parsed at anytime and by anyone who happens to know the specific
TrackingURL for the message; or by clicking on the link in the original acknowledgment email received from SpamCop: or by clicking on the link which says: Unreported Spam Saved: 'Report Now' in the reporting window. Therefor, please take note of the following Warning:
Warning
Never post a copy of a new Tracking URL without first clicking on Send Spam Report(s) Now or Cancel. as you will give anyone who clicks on the link the ability to report that message on your behalf Note: messages older than two days do not present the same problem as they are already too old to report.
