What Is The Purpose Of This Wiki

Why is there so many different places to look for SpamCop help? And why a SpamCop Wiki?

This seems to be a common question that has numerous answers, but the simpliest, shortest answer would probably be: to make finding answers to questions about SpamCop as easy as possible.

There have been numerous attempts at trying to make "help" information available to users and to keep it current and up todate. The original source of help, found at www.spamcop.net has become a big problem. It is extremely out of date and the ability to update it is limited to approved SpamCop paid staff members who must also get approval from the IronPort Legal department before any changes are permitted to be made. There just does not seem to be any interest within the official SpamCop channels to update this help information.

There is the SpamCop Newsgroups, which are great for answering questions as they are posted, one at a time. But they lack any structure for building and maintaining an orgainized FAQ. The SpamCop Newsgroups are supported, almost entirely by volunteers and contain very few posts from any SpamCop staff members. It was the first of the "user" supported help tools and continues to function in that capacity today.

The next to come into existance was the SpamCop Forums. It was initally created as a support tool for SpamCop Email but has grown dramaticly since it's inception in 2004 to cover all things SpamCop. The SpamCop Forum Administrator - Wazoo - is an unpaid volunteer who has devoted thousands of hours in trying to make help information easily assessible. Like the SpamCop Newsgroups, the forums are supported almost entirely by volunteers and contain very few posts from any SpamCop staff members. An orgainized FAQ was started in the Forum by Wazoo, and with the help of others has grown into a monster data base that many find difficult to use. At this current time, it contains the most up todate and complete (that is to say, more complete then any other source) source of SpamCop help information.

The FAQ that Wazoo began in the SpamCop Forums was only meant to be a temporary fix to the problem with the "official" FAQ.

This Wiki is the most recent attempt at building a complete, up todate FAQ that can easily be updated, cross referenced and cross linked, providing what (at least some of us think) can be the best source for detailed SpamCop help information. Due to a current lack of participation, its growth has slowed down to a crawl. Like the forums and newsgroups, the Wiki is a "user" supported tool.
