[Resolved] Increased spam after reporting

Recommended Posts

I've been a long time spamcop email user. Recently I started to report held email as spam. BIG MISTAKE... my volume of spam has increased greatly. Much of the increase in spam is pretending to come from my own spamcop email address. A lot of this email is not being caught and held by spamcop.

The most annoying is spam that says Viagra right in the subject line.

Can somebody tell me if its possible to automatically filter out email with Viagra in the subject line? As far as I can tell the spamcop filters seem to only work when you use webmail to check your mail not when you check via POP.

thanks.

And no doubt, the Disposiiton: line will include the word "whitelisted" which means that all fitering has been bypassed. Announcements, FAQs, Wiki entries, countless previous Topics/Discussions address this scenario. Standard blurb is to 'not' whitelist yourself.

And v!agra, v-i-a-g-r-a, and ....... on and on and on. The easy answer is yes, see the many previous other FAQS, Wiki entries, and other discussions about how to use filters. The reality is that this type of filtering 'subject/mode' is pretty much useless due to spammer actions.

Yes, also described in various FAQs, Wiki entries, previous Topics/Discussions.

Just go to your Whitelist and remove your email address from it. The Whitelist overrides any blacklist

The straight answer to your question is that you can set up powerful personal filters, but they only run when you log into webmail. They're useless if you collect your mail via POP.

Thank you petzl & SpamCopAdmin for giving me a straight forward non demeaning answer to my question.
...And thanks to Wazoo for pointing out that the answers to your questions were already available to you with a bit of search effort.

Actually no thanks to wazoo for his condescending tone and unfriendly manner of dealing with members of the public who don't necessarily speak "computer".
...Wazoo's comments had nothing to do with whether or not anyone speaks "computer" nor can anyone tell whether his tone was condescending or unfriendly, as we can not see his body language or hear his tone of voice. All I see is his noting that the problem may have to do with whitelisting and that there are FAQ and earlier SpamCop Forum entries that deal with your questions. If your not "speak[ing] computer" extends to your not knowing how to peruse the FAQ or use the search tools available here, that is quite another matter and we're happy to help you with that. But for those who can use them, we appreciate their doing so first to save valuable time and effort. :) <g>
