CDZYO
One of my mailhosts recently added IPv6 addresses to their servers. Since then, I have been unable to add the new addresses as valid mailhosts. The configuration process appears to be successful: host 2001:418:0:7011:223:8bff:fe98:c89 (getting name) no name Test email processed succesfully (sic). ...but the reporting fails to identify the new server address as "safe." Here is an example (email address and unique Spamcop identifier redacted): 1: Received: from puck.nether.net (204.42.254.5) by mxin2.cesmail.net with SMTP; 22 May 2013 00:41:42 -0000 Hostname verified: puck.nether.net SpamCop received mail from Puck ( 204.42.254.5 ) 2: Received: from npd.nether.net ([iPv6:2001:418:0:7011:223:8bff:fe98:c89]) by puck.nether.net (8.14.7/8.14.5) with ESMTP id r4M03Zgo030867 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 bits=256 verify=NO) for <x>; Tue, 21 May 2013 20:03:36 -0400 No unique hostname found for source: 2001:418:0:7011:223:8bff:fe98:c89 Puck received mail from sending system 2001:418:0:7011:223:8bff:fe98:c89 3: Received: from localhost ([41.142.202.30]) by npd.nether.net (8.14.7/8.14.7) with ESMTP id r4M03Y76018559 for <x>; Wed, 22 May 2013 00:03:35 GMT No unique hostname found for source: 41.142.202.30 Possible forgery. Supposed receiving system not associated with any of your mailhosts Will not trust this Received line. Also, the IPv6 address isn't listed when I review my known mailhosts. I did try to solve the issue by deleting and re-adding the mailhost. I suspect the issue is that the servers are operating in both IPv4 and IPv6 namespace. - Chuck
SpamCopAdmin
>- 2: Received: from npd.nether.net ([iPv6:2001:418:0:7011:223:8bff:fe98:c89]) by puck.nether.net npd.nether.net resolves to 129.250.11.22 129.250.11.22 resolves to npd-la.nether.net npd-la.nether.net resolves to 129.250.11.22 2001:418:0:7011:223:8bff:fe98:c89 doesn't resolve to a server name. It looks to me like the problem is that the nether.net servers don't know their own names. I added the IPv6 IP to the Puck host, but it didn't make any difference. - Don D'Minion - SpamCop Admin - - Service[at]Admin.SpamCop.net - . CDZYO
That's helpful -- thanks! I'll pass that along to the nether.net guys and see if they can straighten that out.
