Yes someone's put another shilling in the meter

LOL! I haven't seen a meter that takes coins, let alone shillings, for many years! (Prepaid/pay-as-you-go meters in my area are very different these days.)

A while ago, 3:24PM CDT (2024 UTC), after visiting "members.spamcop.net" clicking on "Unreported spam Saved: Report Now" I got the following message, asking me to report the error to "httpconfig [at] admin.www.spamcop.net" but an email to that address bounced,

<"httpconfig [at] admin.www.spamcop.net">: Host or domain name not found. Name service error for name=admin.www.spamcop.net type=AAAA: Host not found

so I'm reporting it here, just in case it's really of use to someone.

It looks like a misplaced "www" in the email address to me, I'd suggest resending to httpconfig[at]admin.spamcop.net (without the www). As someone who doesn't have the necessary admin access to the server, there's not a lot I can do to fix the error, even if I did have the requisite knowledge. :(

Please be patient with us on this one. We have 24 shiny new servers coming online that are running a new version of SpamCop (v4.8.3.028) on CentOS versus FreeBSD and SpamCop v4.8.2.018. Obviously we're working through some bugs so you're seeing us switching back and forth between the servers. Hopefully everything will be worked out and we'll be on the new servers full time by mid-week.

  • 8 months later...

Got the same above error message AEST at 5.03pm. I wanted to ask why I am getting spam from the same sources after reporting them for months now. I feel like not bothering as I spend a couple of hours a day reporting.

Also, I haven't been able to contact any representative as there is always an error message or the address isn't valid.

When my spam gets truncated, there is a message: spam not reported in full.

I report to Hotmail and three Australian sources for free.

Maybe, that's enough without paying for Spamcop.

Thanks

Reasons for continuing to see spam from the sources you've been reported included

(1) Even if sufficient reports are being provided by several users for the IP address(es) involved to get listed, your email provider might not be using the Spamcop list to block or otherwise filter incoming mail

(2) Even if the relevant IP addresses get listed, the email you're receiving might be processed when they're not listed

(3) It's possible that any report(s) sent to the abuse contacts are being ignored

Thanks for that lisati.

I won't bother with Spamcop after my subscription runs out. I have better things to do with my time. I report to Hotmail, two Aussie spam-reporting sites and three phishing reporting sites. If that's not enough, then we have lost the war!

Also, I find reporting confusing. I just copy and paste the message source as forwarding comes back with an error and have tried registering my other addresses and sending back the link etc but they don't get accepted.

I don't understand the language used for describing situations like parsing, other things and what you need to do to get the reports in if there is a problem.

Sometimes, my report doesn't go through as it says the full headers aren't there and I have made some mistake.

They were copied straight from 'message source' and can't do better than that.

So, it must be that spammers are getting smarter.

I have tried to contact someone there in authority but the addresses bounce, are invalid or it says to contact the webmaster which also was invalid.
