Option to reject HTML mail?

Just had 2 spams slips through the system pimping some pathetic viagra site. also got some dodgy child porn geocities redirect spam earlier.

anyway...

is it possible to detect whether an email contains html content and reject it then? I am not interested in anyone sending HTML formatted mail. I view in text mode only as a precaution, but im 99% certain an HTML mail to me (especially one referencing external images) is junk. Is this technically easy?

You would not be able to reject on the basis of body content because once you have accepted the message, you can no longer reject it. I'm sure you could redirect it to a junk folder, using something like SpamAssassin with a higher than normal score for HTML content.

There's another issue... You knever know when someone you actually communicate with, will take the initiative to dress up their e-mail with html decorations.

Although I have no appreciation for this, I do recieve a couple of dressed up e-mails a year I would perfer not to reject.

I could tell these ppl to stop, but they spent extra time doing that sort of thing, in effort to make their mails look "good". I don't see anything good coming from griping about it.

shmengie: Perhaps you don't mind getting HTML emails, but others do. Some email packages can not even display HTML, being text only. As always, it is up to the individual as to what they will accept or not.

Personally, I do not view any HTML emails, my wife using the same application like to receive newsletters that are only available in HTML, so I need to leave it enabled, but I use spamcop email (which does text only) to preview all my messages first.

Filters which run in real time during the SMTP session can return an error to the DATA command based on the message content and have been used to reject HTML-only email.

Could you point me to examples, please, where this is being used. I know it is technically possible, but I have never seen such a system implemented. I would be interested in how effecient (how quickly the data is stopped) since that is the main advantage of using a blocklist at my site, the fact that very little data (i.e. charged bandwidth) is needed to determine whether we will accept the message or not.

Thank you, but I was thinking more along the lines of someone actually using this feature. I would be interested in the additional load, whether it is a simple text match (which it seems to be) or if it can "see" inside of Base64, etc.

Basically, I am interested in real world experience of using this feature.
