turetzsr
Thanks...it did. Pity he didn't copyright the single word Spamcop.27813[/snapback] ...Well, it isn't his to copyright. However, IIRC, one of the messages on the subject talks about how Julian (SpamCop's originator and programmer) had the domain name but forgot to renew it one time.... I'm kinda busy as a MOD on McAfeehelp.com. The "forgetting" thing happened to someone I know last year. She was away on holiday when I went to her website...got the domain renewal notice thing....I renewed it for her, just in time. Thanks for the info. Wazoo
I don't think the SpamCop newsgroup archives go back far enough to have captured the occurrence. But your "saved the site" story reminds me of the Microsoft domain save by a Linux user ... a few links .. http://itrain.org/itinfo/1999/it991228.html http://www.msboycott.com/news/00_01_10.shtml http://www.crackmonkey.org/pipermail/crack...9q4/001634.html

Well my home town here, Toronto, lost it's Tourism website sometime last year. People were emailing in complaining that they got a porn site when they clicked the link....several lawsuits later they got it back! I can't believe how these things happen...there's got to be a Murphy type law about it somewhere.
eric
(Steering only slightly off-topic) This kind of thing is why I'm glad that the registrar I use for several domains (company as well as "vanity domains" for family and friends) has an automatic renew feature. If I keep credit card information on file with them, they'll automatically renew domains when they come up. That way I don't need to worry about forgetting, or being away on vacation for 2 critical weeks. Probably many registrars do this now, but it used to be rare. Even Network Solutions does it, I believe, although I certainly would not recommend them to anyone who is not already stuck with them. The registrar I do recommend, and use myself, is GoDaddy. <oblig>No connection, just a satisfied user.</oblig> A customer who was frustrated no end by NetSol's failure to respond to numerous technical issues over time, and thereby became an ex-customer of Network Solutions. Jeff G.
The previous post http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?...indpost&p=27969 appears to be the first evidence from this user of its modus operandi of spam via signature and nonsense posts. DavidT
Regarding the forum spamming from "nida_pakistani" -- a Google search is enlightening: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22ni...G=Google+Search as is a Google Groups search on one of his domains: http://groups-beta.google.com/groups?q=%22...off&sa=N&tab=wg He appears to have been actively spamming forums and newsgroups with links. Wazoo
User was back this morning ... posts were queued for Moderation, warn level bumped up another notch, posts were deleted once again being of the non-sensical two/three word type .... only difference this time was that all posts were under the same Topic (perhaps because he couldn't see the previous postings he/she had made?) DavidT
I'd just keep him on this status, in which none of hist posts see the light of day, and maybe he'll eventually give up and move on to greener pastures. Have you sent him any "we know you're a chronic spammer, get lost" PM's? DT
