Add http://www.afrinic.net searching

Recommended Posts

I have seen more and more failed identification of originating IPs In many cases when I have manually looked them up they are in afrinic.net. I suspect that spamcop's whois is like my current bash whois which doesn't query that nic.

Please consider adding this nic to your lookups.

Tom

Thanks Tom, looks like this was raised in the NGs about a year ago - http://news.spamcop.net/pipermail/spamcop-...ary/098199.html Deputies were "on it" and all. No doubt there's a history. Anyone know why it's still a problem?

Further to the above, in addition (no doubt) to other mentions in the news groups, we have this "here" from Don (Jan 15 2006) - http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?...indpost&p=39299

So, problems surrounding use/non use of AFRINIC are known, Tom's post indicates it is still not fixed after a year (near enough), Ellen and Don have weighed in to get it looked at - at various times both early and recent - yet the myrmidons of spamdom still run rampant through an entire continent. Not pretty - perhaps the volumes from that bloc are relatively small but the technical issues are significant (inconsistent nic contact was mentioned before)? Does anyone have information?
