Mangled link?

Running a search from http://www.spamcop.net/help.shtml, "system + slow" (of course it's not anymore - hooray!), going through the "Show additional pages" to end up on (Long URL), I select from halfway down the page an instance of the topic SpamCop Discussion -> Slow held mail reporting with the link http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?...ic=903&view=new (also confirmed in the text) but instead end up at http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=930 which is Merlyn's excellent "Spammer Rules", recently pinned. //forum ... showtopic=903 isn't on the same topic either. Is this something to do with pinning? On a brief examination I didn't note any other bent links there.

Incidentally, if you field this Wazoo, if you do respond to Merlyn's "Last Word Award", you *will* do it as an avatar, won't you? ;-) Talk about John Knox's definition of Calvinism*!

[*OK, Googled it, tad obscure esp with Calvinism misspelled - allegedly it goes "You're damned if you do/ And you're damned if you don't/You're damned if you will/ And you're damned if you won't." - scurrilous I'm sure]

Running a search from http://www.spamcop.net/help.shtml, "system + slow" (of course it's not anymore - hooray!), going through the "Show additional pages" to end up on (Long URL),

That's a very interesting collection of links, looking at the "ending string of characters" of each ... new, last, getlastpost, getnewpost ... obviously, not "google bot" acquired pages ... somehow storing search queries / results???? Hmmm, maybe I need to retract a statement from a couple of days ago about the Forums being Google'd ..?? Though I recall bringing this type of thing up over in the newsgroups about those postings showing up more and more in Google seaches and hazarding the guess that it was becasue foa ll these "search on the SpamCop" pages .... this page shines a much brighter light on that guess ....

I select from halfway down the page an instance of the topic SpamCop Discussion -> Slow held mail reporting with the link http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?...ic=903&view=new (also confirmed in the text)

I'm betting that this is a function of the "read new bug" mentioned recently in another Topic (never did finish chasing that one down, as it appeared that Innovision had just done a software update, as all I was getting was a default Apache successfully installed page) Such that the "new" flag sent you to the topic holding the oldest unread posting, but then slid your display and pointer to the last posting in that Topic ....

but instead end up at http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=930 which is Merlyn's excellent "Spammer Rules", recently pinned.

Again, I think it was as just described, and as this was in that Topic, your pointer and display went to the 'last' post under that Topic, which then hit the "moved" flag here ... whew! ?? (did I mention "drop the &view=new from the end of that link?

http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?...ic=903&view=new

http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=903 )

//forum ... showtopic=903 isn't on the same topic either.  Is this something to do with pinning?  On a brief examination I didn't note any other bent links there.

Now this one is cute ... I agree with your result as clicked on from the Google page ... I point out the difference when you drop that ending string ... However, if you go with the Google "Cached view" .. dangnation, I don't understand, but that displays what matches the Forum's listing of http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=856 even though the Google link is http://216.239.41.104/custom?q=cache:kGXli...&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 (still containing the 903 posting ID ... very odd ..

Umm at this point, (if you could only see my task bar now <g>) .... I'm going to say this is going to a back burner for right now .... and that's because I'm wondering if the contents of that Google page may change in a while ... either due to your next checking it, me next checking it, more changes in the Topic list in the Forum, etc ... and I'll admit, I a bit tired and confused right now <g> ... you sure picked a good one here .. <G>

Incidentally, if you field this Wazoo,

and just how did you know that I couldn't think about closing my eyes till I was "caught up" ? <g>

Been trying to come up with a response to that one for a while, actually ... first glance had some first thoughts, then looked a bit closer at the smilies <g> ... but, after just wading through a bit of "this is not help" thing... ???? Yep, you've got one of mental positionings stroked right to a perfect point in that definition <g> Thanks ...

Yep,

First one goes to Merlyn's "spam Rules" (actually showtopic=930), second to UBC's "e-mail blocking", neither is the topic in the search result.

You weren't supposed to see that <g> ... just took me too long to type up the "real" response <g> I did intend to delete it before it was noticed <g>
