[Resolved] Forwarding from the New/Updated YAHOO

In advance, I am sorry if I am asking a question that gets repeated alot!

Now that YAHOO mail has a new/updated email page, I am unable to "forward as an attachment" just by holding down the Ctrl button and clicking on forward.

So how do I forward spam from Yahoo mail now? :blink:

What if I don’t want to upgrade to the newest version of Yahoo! Mail?

You will have the option to access your mail through Yahoo! Mail Classic.

You are braver than I - I haven't upgraded my account yet - so do they lie? Can you find such an option - or is it gone once you give in to their constant nagging and make the change?

I note the shortcut key for forwarding in the new Yahoo! Mail is F -

As usual Yahoo lies, and their support is useless.

I tried the beta MONTHS ago, and reported this very problem. Never got a response from them.

Today it switched me to the new mail AND WON"T LET ME GO BACK :-(

I've tried Ctrl/F, Command/F, Ctrl/Forward Command/Forward and anything else I coudld think of from Win or Mac, Firefox or Chrome. Nothing lets me forward the message as an attachment.

Cut and past is way to slow to even consider.

I've logged yet another support ticket with yahoo, but expect the same lack of response as last time.

Unless Spamcop folks can either come up with a workaround, or hit someone at yahoo over the head with a 2x4 to get them to actually fix this, it looks like a dead end.

Well, what I have been doing works, but it's a pain-in-the-you-know-what!

--Right click on the spam message, then "view full header"

--Copy the info in the pop-up, click OK

--Click the FORWARD button

--Paste the header info at the top of the message

--Send to SpamCop

Like I said, it's a pain!

I guess the issue now is, how to "revert". And so far there doesn't seem to be a way. I confess I haven't made the switch yet, so can't help directly in that quest. My impression was that they would offer that option but apparently (J.R.) they lie.

Can't help thinking life would be a whole lot harder for spammers if mail providers would just coordinate their "spam solutions", admit there is no single "silver bullet" and do their best to support the wider range of anti-spam measures - including SpamCop reporting.

Back in the real world, as always, if limited (for any reason) in the extent of your reporting, concentrate on the more recent and/or the ones that annoy or worry you the most. You can only do so much and "burn-out" awaits those who try taking on too much.

Takes a bit of discussion with the agent, you will need to provide your security answers and birthdate, but it's possible to switch back, especially seeing as there is a KNOWN issue with the new mail interface not working with screen readers, ...

Ah, thanks cwg. So it's a matter of hitting the [Contact Customer Care] button in the "Still Need Help?" section of that page and jumping through their hoops? Their baseline:

We have removed the "Return to Original Mail" link from the help menu as we're strongly encouraging all users to migrate to the newest version of Yahoo! Mail. Pity they didn't develop all the "compelling features" before they pretty-much compelled take-up of the new version. I guess e-mail reporters are living on borrowed time even if, for now, they manage to revert or have managed to resist the continuing and insistent "upgrade" prompting.

I've had replies like that, followed some time later by responses from confused Yahoo support people. I'm sure many of us could wax lyrical about what seems to be incompetence [at] Yahoo's abuse desk.

...Well, I don't really expect first-level support people to necessarily have sufficient technical chops to understand but I do expect them to escalate it to someone who does!

True! I recently had a response from Yahoo in connection with an incident that didn't involve discarded attachments but still left me scratching my head and wondering how what I'm assuming was their autoresponder could come up with the particular reply I received. A politely worded response from me to the effect that it didn't make sense elicited the standard Yahoo response about "we have taken appropriate action."

After several go-arounds with their incompetent support, I finally got someone to change me back to the classic email. It still has all the known problems we've had for years, but I can still forward as an attachment.

This seems to fix the problem until they again force the account into the new "it sucks but se it anyway" mail.

So any one else with the problem, keep hammering away at them. They finally made me submit a "request" giving them permission to revert my account.

As Bugs Bunny used to say, "What a bunch of Maroons".

Thanks J.R. Not marking this resolved then, because it's not - (while noting leahjane10 posted a workaround earlier in this topic). The best solution for the moment is not to make the change in the first place - and that's a little too late for most who will be reading here, hence no solution either.

The Idiots at Yahoo are really idiots. Just logged in and guess what? I'm back again to the POS new interface that won't let me report to Spamcop.

Looks like the only way this is going to get fixed is from the Spamcop side. Yahoo seems to be totally incompetent. If so many folks didn't have my email address I'd toss it and go elsewhere.

These support folks are pathetic.

Yep, no exceptions, they finally made it mandatory with previous mail held hostage (having given notice several times that "upgrade" would be required - by 28 Aug in my case, from memory).

which provides the headers, then paste in to the message for the "Forward" action. I tried that on a non-spam message to obtain an example (deleting the short headers inserted for the forwarding process):

Looks to have gone well enough to add to SCbl stats and report to the server abuse address for the originating message but it is certainly NOT in the "original format". The "full headers" may be just that but the MIME boundaries, HTML parts, etc. in the body are missing.

Note the "Content-Type: multipart/alternative;" in the above example is not matched by a MIME statement or border declarations within the body, the (presumed) text/HTML part was not picked up at all in the forwarding action. The "Content-Type:" unmatched by subsequent boundaries (with the expected further part/parts) is presumably the reason for the eventual error: couldn't parse head message.

It is certainly not a process conducive to high-volume reporting and, for the moment at least, Yahoo are on a divergent path in terms of "spam solutions". Well, they aim to catch and eliminate all spam through their network through their own resources - outwards as well as inwards, I guess.

Given that truncation of the body is permissible and boundary declarations may be optional, I'm only supposing this style of Yahoo reporting is acceptable to SpamCop - any comment from the staff welcome. Just in the off-chance the new Yahoo accounts still catch some spam. <_<

Any such spam instances found could helpfully be noted here. I'm not sure I've ever received spam in my own Yahoo account, even though it was the old "legacy" or "original Yahoo" account I had been maintaining until now.

I got Yahoo Mail Customer Service to change the new (crappy, slow & glitchy) Yahoo Mail interface to Yahoo Mail Classic. Cut and pasted is the response by Yahoo Mail Customer Service. Try and see if you can change according to instruction in the cut and paste excerpt below. (private info deleted)

I wrote the reasoned complaint email to Yahoo Mail Customer Service through the contact form. You'll have to find that elsewhere, Yahoo have the hoops for you to jump through to the contact form page.

Here's how I explained my case to Yahoo Mail Customer Service.

This is what I do as well.

Unfortunately the links in these emails are often missed by SC whether fwd'ed or pasted.

There is no view source any more at least in my Yahoo.

Also w/o being able to 'view source' html spam is either invisible or the links are embedded in type.

Well, what I have been doing works, but it's a pain-in-the-you-know-what!

Unfortunately nothing suggested seems to be "universal" as Yahoo seems determined to make it happen, even if it costs them (free) users. But maybe worth a look for those wanting to reclaim the full header display from Yahoo webmail.

I have given up with Yahoo web interface - just use an IMAP email client such as Thunderbird, to access your Yahoo account: this is possible even for a free account, and has the benefit of backing up your email locally.

Most importantly you can submit the items from the Bulk Mail (spam) folder to Spamcop directly - select, Message/Foward as/Attachment

Doing this also allows you to report a batch of emails at the same time in one go, impossible from the web client.

This is probably the best/easiest approach esp. for those who really want to report their spam, although spam which typically goes to the spam folder will have to be transferred to ones inbox to get to your client unless you include your spam folder in the client...just guessing there. :)

Nope, the spam folder appears as Bulk Mail, which is just a folder, no copying required. Just click on Bulk Mail, select all (as appropriate), Forward As ... etc.

I only now use the Yahoo web interface if I am not at my own computer.

I only wish I had twigged this method of reporting spam a long time ago !!

Once sent, I just hit 'J' which then classifies all the selected mails as Junk and re-files them.

Thanks emanmb and redtuna - definitely seems to be the way ahead. I guess further discussion on the (2-way) IMAP interface, if required, can be added to this topic but then subsequently split out into it's own topic if there is enough substance and demand to require it. There may be some regional differences in just what Yahoo supports, noting the evolving article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahoo!_Mail as a starting point for any needing to do a little research before posting.
