Can't find a reported spammer IP

I have a question; two actually.

I receive regular spam from tpnet.pl, which are reported by spamcop to abuse[at]tpnet.pl, and spamhaus lists them as high on the list of perverts, but when attempting to find tpnet.pl, it doesn't seem to be a valid domain. Can one have a email as above, without having a valid domain name?

Also, referencing the spamhaus list, Verizon is at the top of the list. However I receive a lot of spam, 99% filtered via spamcop, and I report it all (37,000+ so far), and I look at some of the reports, but in my reporting Verizon is almost never seen. How can they be among the worst offenders (the worst) and yet I don't see them in my reports?

PS, I have mentioned this before, but checking "enable notification of email replies" doesn't seem to work for me. I have to log in and check replies, so if I miss one, sorry.

how and where do you try to find tpnet.pl?

with internet browser - it redirects to tp.pl (which is right)

and this works fine too:

and then raise three issues ....

Registration and definition of data involved.

Spamhaus has various criterion for their listings. Assumedly your 'profile' doesn't match the targetting by the spammers using Verizon's service to handle their spew.

Yes you have, and have never gotten around to replying to any of that discourse either.

http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=7148 - one of the last times you brought it up but never came back

As you never got around to experimenting, I did ....

SELECT * FROM ipb_forum_tracker where member_id='3437'

no data

SELECT * FROM ipb_tracker where member_id='3437'

trid member_id topic_id start_date last_sent topic_track_type

4744 3437 8032 1173747503 0 delayed

No 'errors' showing in the Forum 'output' logs

update ipb_tracker set topic_track_type='immediate' where member_id='3437'

Query: update ipb_tracker set topic_track_type='immediate' where member_id='3437'

Executed Successfully

So the question is ... 'will this post cause a notification to go out?'

Answer is 'yes, it did'

MY you are good...and fast too, if a bit testy :)

Starting at the bottom I see for the first time that the email notification says, "There may be more replies to this topic, but only 1 email is sent per board visit for each subscribed topic. This is to limit the amount of mail that is sent to your inbox."

I suppose I haven't read the blurb in the past. This makes sense in a fast moving political thread, but in this forum with a handful of comments for most issues, it may make for missed relies.

Regarding the real questions, I seem to have assumed that a domain name like tpnet.pl would actually have a web site somewhere. So does this mean that they are set up just to send email, presumably just spam?

As to Verizon, I have noticed certain categories of spam coming to a few email addresses I have, but one of the main ones is my spamcop address. I just think it strange that one of the worst offenders is not on my sh*t list.

So, is there no cost to Verizon for being on the Spamhaus favorites list? I use Verizon for phone service. Should I call my congressman? Should I tell them to reduce my rates or I will report them?

Response to this is going to be in another separate Topic ... which probably won't fit your reading selection process, but ... the answer is probably going to head for a Forum FAQ entry .. you are not the first that didn't check the FAQ, didn't reake any response to my replies, didn't change the settings to see if it did anything, on and on ..... and lots of people only read "their" Topics, even though the subject matter exists all over the place ....

You gotta love the problems with 'making assumptions' .... Anyone can 'register' a Domain name. At this point, all that does is prevent someone else from 'registering' that same Domain name. Now if you're actually going to use it, various things such as DNS records have to generated and placed/stored somewhere accessible from 'the net' ..... What gets placed in those records defines what happens when those various strings of text get placed into, say your browser Address window ....

Easy example is right here .... type in www.spamcop.net and your browser gets sent to an IronPort system located in California (ignoring the reality that you'll actually hit an Akamai server geograhically located somewhere near you, as that just confuses the issue right now) ... However, type in forum.spamcop.net and your browser gets sent to a CesMail server in Georgia .... type in spamcop.net and the DNS pointers now re-direct your browser to www.spamcop.net (this was changed a bit just after the IronPort changeover)

In the specific case you want to discuss, tpnet.pl has not been 'defined' to redirect to a web-site. Technically, what this actually says is that there is no 'defined' tpnet.pl Domain, but that the sub-Domain of www.tpnet.pl has been set up to point to a hosted web-site/page.

MX recoprds for e-mail is another whole subject.

As to Verizon, I have noticed certain categories of spam coming to a few email addresses I have, but one of the main ones is my spamcop address. I just think it strange that one of the worst offenders is not on my sh*t list.

Cost: hard to say .. back to whuch lists they get on, who uses those lists in a blocking fadhion, which of the affected users have a clue as to ewhy a certain e-mail didn't get through to the other party?

congressman? - implies U.S. I have a link in the SpamCop FAQ here to the CAN-spam act passed by those critters quite a while ago. You think calling your current representative will actually get something else/better done that might actually work? (Noting that the spam issue is world-wide)

My previous conversations with some of these various companies basically boils down to "the phone system is not connected to the interenet system" (or change 'system' to office, organization, equipment, personnel, etc. to fit the conversation)

They have, as Wazoo has said, a website at www.tpnet.pl (but not without the www) - you can use DNS Report - or, no doubt, any of a number of other tools - to resolve such questions. Go down to the end of the tpnet.pl report to see the websites resolution
Your www.tpnet.pl A record is:

www.tpnet.pl. A 217.97.216.10 [TTL=3600] [PL]

Don't forget to read above the latest post for any others since you last read the topic. :D

OK. Thank you all. Learned a little bit more (whether or not I understood it all).

So as not to end topic, I'd like to ask another question of the experts. Is there any plan in effect to deal with spam realistically (as opposed to CanSpam silliness - I was joking above about calling my congressman)?

I seem to recall Bill Gates making heavy promises a couple of years ago.
