SpamCop can't find Spam!

Hi all:

Since the changeover to the new "face" at SpamCop I've been unable to send spam on to SpamCop. Submissions via the web always result in one error or another (today's reported problem was that the submission was too long, though I trimmed it to an acceptable length) and every attempt to submit spam via forwarded email results in the reply:

SpamCop encountered errors while saving spam for processing:

SpamCop could not find your spam message in this email:

I'm using OE6. I'll admit I don't know enough about the "structure" of email to understand exactly how I'm supposed to submit spam using the new 2-part web submission form, though I've tried various things, but I'd think the simple forwarding of spam via email should work correctly.

Any suggestions?

When you say you forward the mail, do you mean you click on the forward button, or do you forward it as an attachement?

Forwarding as an attachement is the better way causing the least about of distortion to the original message.

And to go even further ... OE6 does not need the two-part work around .... that is for Outlook / Eudora ... for any further specific discussion on the problems with your submittals, please provide a Tracking URL of one of your problem submittals.

Thanks! I forwarded as an attachment the latest spam and that worked.

I use Outlook 2003 at work and at home. At work, emailing spam as attachments works fine. At home I get the "cannot find the spam" error.

As far as I know I have them set up exactly the same. The only difference is that when I send at work it is through an Exchange server, but at home it's SMTP. Should that make a difference? :unsure:

SMTP is Pipex Internet (www.pipex.net)

It's sent as an attachment, and the attachment is intact when I get it back.

I can't because Spamcop refuses to even try to parse it. :(

I have the same problem. Of the 20+ messages I have sent in since August only 1 has been accepted.

I use SMTP on the current build of Merak Mail http://www.merakmail.com as my mail server and Outlook 2002. I have tried FORWARDing messages and saving as attachments (.MSG format) then attaching to a new message.

I even tried FORWARDing spam from my Yahoo account but continue to have no success.

I see talk of a TRACKING URL in some of the earlier posts. I can not locate a such a link in the SPAMCOP failure messages.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Outlook 2003 has some different capabilites than 2002, but as a general rule, you can't forward from Outlook without doing a dance or using a dance partner (please see the FAQ on How to get Full Headers ...."

Yahoo also requires going into your preferences and selecting a "Forward as Attachment" mode to make that the standard ... and in general, this does work.

The Tracking URL is now identified as a TRACKING URL, so if you're not seeing it, it must be due to not even getting that far into the parsing process (though this still seems a bit odd)

Do you get a reply from Spamcop saying so?

If so, please post a copy of that reply.

If not, please explain in more detail what you mean by "refuses to even try"

Please note Ellen's previous replys stating that some ISP's have started to delete mail sent to SpamCop because they have identified it as spam, but also fail to notifiy the sender that they have done so. If SpamCop does not receive it, SpamCop can not parse it.

sounds like you are receive a notification. Please post that notification, please edit out the actual spam message if it is displayed in text form. It would held to know where that bounce is coming from, your ISP, SpamCop, someother place. - Headers would help greatly.

...Although you shouldn't have to set a preference -- just select "Forward as attachment" from the drop-down list if it defaults to "Forward in-line."

Thanks Wazoo.  I will read the FAQ's more carefully in the future.

Not sure if you took something personal there ... I was just making note that this factoid had been added (and updated since) to the FAQ here. As far as reading it, even I'll admit that I can't keep up with myself in there ... thinking that I've put stuff there but can't find it, going to put stuff in there and finding that I'd already done it ... I've admitted before that it really is too massive in this form, but also stating that it was never meant to be the final result ... I'd still rather have more room to walk around in this Forum set <g>

I hear you Tom.....I've just about given up trying to send reports...all I get back is that tedious message "unable to find spam"...I look forward to the day when the owners make it user friendly for us dumb users  :(

...Could you please post the exact error message you receive? Are you given a "TRACKING URL" when you try to submit the spam or just an error message? Are you submitting using the web form (and, if so, is it the standard one-part for or the two-part "Eudora/Outlook workaround" form) or via e-mail?

1. You should modifiy that web page information to remove your private submit address. If you start seeing spam reports you did not submit, you should request a new one from the deputies. I am seeing that address in 6 locations.

2. You appear to be using OUtlook as your email submission tool. Please read these pages from the FAQ: http://www.spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/118.html and http://www.spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/122.html

Basically, OUtlook can not be used without an add-in tool to submit via email.

Maybe just not enough coffe at this point, but .. I give up trying to sort all that out. I'd rather see the actual submittal rather than the SpamCop response. Where I'm seeing a C/R in there for exmple, which is now against the rules for reporting, there's a question there. There have been a couple of threads over in the neswgroups dealing with a spammer or two manipulating the heack out of the MIME boundary lines, and with the boat load of Boundaries in this, was headed there, but ... the manipulations in question aren't "here" .. but this is when I recognized that I was getting lost trying to keep track of which line went with what ... Wondering why I didn't see a sign of a Tracking URL in this sample ...

I took it as someone trying to submit multiple messages via Outlook attachments (MIME attachments at that). I too may be wrong, but that was my analysis.

That would also explain why there is no Tracking URL...the parser refused to accept the submission.

...Actually, I do not believe that is quite true -- I have had reasonably good luck as long as I follow certain steps. See My reply in thread "Reporting spam". :) <g>

I agree. I submit spam using Outlook 2003 from work (using an Exchange server) all the time, simply forwarding them as attachments. I think the most I have sent in one email was 10! And I have never had any of them fail. The only failures I have had are the ones sent from Outlook at home using SMTP.

This is an example of one sent without using any macro, simply as an attachment from Outlook 2003, along with 6 others in the same email:
