Help - can't report spam

Whenever I report spam - whether directly or by email - I get this message -

500 Internal Server Error

Sorry, your request could not be processed.

Rest assured that this problem will be fixed. Please re-try the operation which caused this error in a minute or two. You can even leave this error screen open and use your browser's "reload" button to re-try. Please do not press reload repeatedly though. Pressing the button more often does not resolve the problem faster. It just makes a bad situation worse.

If you believe this is a bug which occurs only under specific circumstances (rather than a temporary, general problem), please click on "Help" above and report the problem in the forum with as much detail as you can.

Could someone please help me!! I've just paid my $15 so it's not that!!

I'm getting some spam at the moment that really needs sorting out - it's very frustrating...

Since this is your first attempt, the problem is probably that you are not 'forwarding as attachment' That forwarding is different than the usual 'forward button.' (which is called 'inline')

That was my problem when I first starting using spamcop (and many, many others).

It depends on what kind of program you are using to read your email on how you find that 'forward as attachment' (Outlook, Eudora have special instructions). You can look in the FAQ for all different kinds of programs.

In Outlook Express (which is not the same as Outlook), hightlight the spam, right click, choose forward as attachment from menu. You can highlight several spam with this method and send them as a batch. There is a limit on how many KB can be sent so about 5 or 6 is safe.

Good Luck! (and if you have more questions, there are lots of people with more knowledge than I have who will help you. It is good to give as much detail as you can about what programs you are using and how you are doing it. Read some other posts here and you will see the kind of information needed for different problems)

I used the search function with "500 internal server error" as the key .... Really a lot of items that have never been "closed" out as the original poster never came back to advise whether things ever worked again, but do see that the most common thing is the use of Safari on a Mac. You made no declaration so there's no way to guess if this has any link to you. The most interesting (and about the only feedback on solving anything) is found at http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=2011 where the removal of Aladdin Internet Cleanup seemed to solve the problem.

...In this case, I don't think the OP is having a problem with how (s)he is submitting the spam but in trying to go to a SpamCop.net web page.

Thank you all for your help

I do use Safari - but it has worked fine in the past - it's only the last couple of weeks that I've had this problem. It happens whether I copy the spam content directly into Spamcop or whether I forward as an attachment. I will try reporting through Internet Explorer as soon as I get another spam - you never have spam when you need them!

If you are still having this problem. it would help if we could see an exact copy of the reply message that you are getting. If it is coming to you as a separte email message, could you forward that message as an attachment (as if you were reporting it as spam) and post the tracking ULR. To state the obvious, do not actaully report it, simply cancel the report. If it is coming as a popup message, if you could post another copy of it and indicate exacting what steps you had taken prior to the popup appearing it might shed some additional light on the subject

Actually if you received a tracking ULR on the previous spam that would help, or you could also resubmit that same spam (if you still have it, check sent message folder)

As I pointed out, the only person coming back and saying the "problem went away" referenced the install (and removal) of some other software. Your "couple of weeks" just has heavy overtones of something similar ... what happened "a couple of weeks ago" .. especially something that may have been added at your end? Put a different way, you are the only person complaining about this 500 internal error at present, so it's kind of hard to guess at what may have changed on the SpamCop side of things that would have messed up only your reporting.
