can't access {imap,pop}.spamcop.net

Connections to these are either exceedingly slow (2-5 minutes to just display the forum pages) or just timeout altogether (pop, imap). Is there a network problem within spamcop?

There's currently no way for me to lengthen my email client's timeout interval, so I'm essentially off-line here.

I don't know what to tell you. I am experiencing no problems reaching these forums or pop (to download messages) or IMAP (using webmail) to access messages. Also, the fact there are not a lot of other people here asking the same questions would point to something in your network path (your connection, your ISP, their connection, etc) being the culprit.

Have you done any basic network troubleshooting to see where the delays are showing up? Ping and tractroute can be your friend here.

Same complaint raised over in the newsgroups isn't gathering any backup either ... probelm appears to be either at the user's end or this user's connection. This is a situation where a Trace-route would come into play to show where the delay is happening .....

Reposting JeffG's response from "over there" ..

I'm not experiencing the same symptoms.  Have you tried restarting your

mail app, browser, and computer?  Have you tried using the cesmail.net

versions of those sites?  Does ping or nslookup show a delay in

resolving the names of those sites?  Are you having a problem contacting

the www and/or mailsc sites?  If you are still having a problem, please

email JT at support <at> spamcop.net.

SpamCop email has to be the most reliable servers I've ever used with speeds exceeding those of my 512 DSL account (cable not available  ) I get/dowload email with files and always at my maximum download rate

This on top of nothing but legitimate email getting to my inbox and the only address I use is spamcop.net]petzl[at]spamcop.net even in newsgroups

Yet again the whole freakin service is slow. This goes on year after year and

the idiots that run the service can care less. Right now the email service is so slow

that it's worthless. If this continues then the following WILL happen.

File complaints with the Attorney General in Georgia.

File complaints with the Better Business Bureau in Georgia.

File complaints with the Federal Trade Commission.

File complaints with Ripoffreports.com

File complaints with Complaints.com

Why must users of the email service resort to threats and action before any action

will take place?

At this exact moment in time, there are now two posts over in the newsgroups and two postings here talking about speed and connectivity issues (and one of each is by the same user, so we're at a total count of three 'complaints' .. one from abot 2000 GMT-6 last night, one at about 1400, and one at about 1730 today.). There are also a number of other folks responding that "they" are not seeing issues. So as stated in my last post, those with issues, please try to document something so the "problem" can be addressed. Trace-route results, ping results, defining the IPs involved, etc., etc., etc.

sponge_bob advised of the Move/Merge of his/her posting.

BTW: both ping and a SamSpade trace-route fail in attempting to reach sponge_bob's posting IP address.

Could this be the same problem vilain and sponge_bob are having?

Woah! .. I was sitting here thinking to myself that I had just caught up on the newsgroups and I didn't remember seeing this additional data .. ok, noted that you'd pointed out the spamcop.mail group ... the only thing not added is if there were more folks complaining .. and by that omission, I'll go with thus far we're still down to two folks with this issue ...????

Now, for the only additional data I can provide at this point ... a copy of sponge_bob's PM to me .. which I'm not sure why I should be the sole owner of .. thus sharing the load here ....

 Firewall !! . It's not my Internet Provider  as you guys are just making more excuses for providing a  real bad email service.  Please fix the problems or  the state of Georgia will be notified.

Last warning !

Thank You and have a nice day.

Sponge Bob

I haven't quite figured out what "Firewall !!" is supposed to suggest ... but I sure don't see much of a response to anything posted here thus far either ....

A user that pays no attention to responses posted, hasn't checked the FAQ for anything, takes no notice of data provided ... yet wants to threaten me personally for something I've no control over .. silly, to say the least

  • 3 weeks later...

sponge_bob's recent "new" Topic was Merged into the same Topic that was used the last time his same complaint was raised. sponge_bob advised again via PM of the Move/Merge.

As in the previous discussion, the complaint isn't backed by massive hordes posting of the same problem. Noting also that nothing has been offered that might help to identify the specific problem .. no trace-route data for instance. Still no idea if any of the preceding data or FAQ information has been looked at, applied, or even read. So once again, not a lot of helpful answers available, as the "problem" is still not defined.

Things like just what operations / connections are at issue? Is it just the e-mail side of the house or do the www.spamcop.net also come up "slow" .... Which interface is in use, browser or IMAP? What browser is involved? When's the last time that cache was cleared, system re-booted, etc., etc., etc.

Maybe it's getting to the point that if all you want to do is bitch, complain, and tell false stories, perhaps you'd be much better off taking advantage of the thing called "a Refund" and try something else for handling your spam ..????

Typical excuses , blame the persons ISP or ask for traceroute information to get

away from the fact that the email service is still slow. If Jeff keeps making excuses and continues telling people that the problem is on their end , he will be dealing with the Attorney General in Georgia. The problems have been going on for years now and it doesn't seem like they will be ending any time soon. Stop posting exuses when you know damn well that the problems are on Jeff's end and not on mine. I have even used the email service on a high speed DSL connection and the service was still SLOW !

The  problems  have been going on for  years now and it doesn't seem  like they will  be ending  any time soon.

And your documentation on "the service has been slow for years" is exactly where? Or is this a rant from one who has put the money down on a "power" system and somehow believes the advertising that your 4GHz+ machine somehow speeds up the entire Internet?

Stop  posting exuses when you know damn well that the problems are on Jeff's  end and   not on mine.

I don't recall posting any excuses. From other "testimomials" there doesn't seem to be a massive outage at JT's end. Pointing at "your" system is only part of the troubleshooting process, the connection data is yet another part of pinning down the issue. Failure on your part to "help" isn't going to get anything resolved.

I have even  used the email service on a  high speed  DSL   connection and the service was  still   SLOW !

I was curious about your IPs changing, wondering just exactly how you might be trying to connect to anything. One ISP headquartered in CT, your recent involving an ISP in VA, and I seem to recall the ranting complaints posted elsewhere included a PA address .. it's hard not to wonder if you are actually trying to make a "direct" connection or playing some sort of stealth game, which would surely impact data transfer.

Do  something or   I will.

Can I take that to possibly include you asking for a Refund?

I have used the email service going into my thrid year now and have never experienced any kind of slowness. I have used spamcop's webmail almost exclusively for the last year.

There have been a few times when the service was down, but that came along with LOTS of complaints either here or in the news groups.

For completeness, I present my ping and tracert from my employers workstation.

Are they possibly open proxies Wazoo?

Hadn't spent that much time at looking, just noted the different IPs showing (but noticing that they were all blocking trace-routes and pings, so wasn't able to 'develop' connection / time issues from here) Been a bit busy today, both phone and VNC support ...

Speaking of that, a couple of days ago, had a complaint of "everything is slow, takes forever to even boot" .... 647 processes running (got it down to 32) ... first run with Ad-Aware came up with over 400 items of 'interest' (not including cookies) .. latest version of SpyBot - Search & Destroy came up with another couple of hundred items .... end result was client raving about how the computer ran faster than when it was brand new (but of course, having no knowledge on how all that crap got loaded up, pointing out that the latest and greatest Norton Anti-Virus was in use (definition file not updated since it was installed of course) <g>)

It is interesting how some people just want to complain and threaten, but take no action on their part to help solve a problem or even provide any real information to help others to identify the problem.

So sponge_bob, do your part and provide us with some information and just maybe someone might be able to help solve your problem.

I continue to see this damn error "There was an error viewing the requested message. " day after day while trying to open email. FIX THE F****** PROBLEMS !

Complaints will be sent to the Attorney General in Georgia if this problem is not

fixed within a reasonable time frame.

This is your last damn warning !
