[Resolved] new mail NOT obvious in Folder Navigator

Recommended Posts

About how Mail folders are displayed in SC webmail:

Do you ever move your mail from inbox to another folder B4 reading it?

What I see once expand all folders is Just one bold colored folder = Inbox

So all the other folders with unread don't get included in New & Total columns on far right.

I want to see all the folders accounted for with the counts, just like Outlook shows. I'm not presently using that client, but recalling it did indicate new mail in other folders

p.s. sorry if this has been discussed, i searched on [new +mail +folder] already

This would probably need to be brought up in the Horde IMP developers as that is the application being used to provide webmail access. Spamcop did not write that application.

Not an e-mail user, so I'll ask the stupid questions ....

How Moved? Might that imply (to the app) that as you 'touched' them, they aren't really 'new' anymore? Yes, I undersand the Read/Unread status of the specific e-mal, but ...???

p.s. sorry if this has been discussed, i searched on [new +mail +folder] already

the search engine in this app shoud have errored out on the three-letter word 'new' ..??? Google would accept that query. But, no, I don't believe that this has been brought up before. I've got many references in here in other discussions to the Horde/IMP (FAQ) pages (including a few of your other queries as it turns out) ... thought I'd even added that to the FAQ here (have to check - yep, it's there) .. though noting that I can't actually recall being able to actually answer a query here from (the lack of) information found there ... but also not being a user, even if I framed a proper query, I may not understand the response .. so I don't try to handle these questions much beyond the searches ..??? (And if other e-mail users don't already have the answers (noting a response provided by a fellow Moderator), I'm really in the dark <g>)

The following sentence in RED is incorrect, but it is important to leave it in the discussion at present: Whatever mailbox/Folder you are viewing in the Folder Navigator when you click the "Folders" Link on the top row is the one that gets highlighted via bolding (I guess so you can see where you are). If you only see "INBOX", please click the "+" Plus Sign to its left to expand just the INBOX, or alternatively click the "Expand All" Link to Expand All the mailboxes/Folders.

So all the other folders with unread don't get included in New & Total columns on far right.

I can confirm that I am seeing the same symptom. I have some mailboxes/Folders that don't get represented in the New and Total Columns of the Folder Navigator. Some of those unrepresented mailboxes really do have more than 0 Total, and some of those with more than 0 Total really do have more than 0 New/Unread. OE6 is showing them correctly, showing quantity New/Unread in parentheses to the right of the mailbox/Folder Name, and showing both fields in the Message Pane when I click on my "imap.spamcop.net" Account in the Folder List (Folders Pane).

Using IE6, only Inbox is bolded no matter where I enter the view from.

I can get it to show the total number of messages and new messages by placing a checkmark next to the folder and using the pulldown, Check folder(s) for new mail. That setting dows seem to stay through a quick log off and back on, though I don't know just how persistent the setting is. Checking from another system the setting does seem to be persistent. It also shows the folders with unread messages in bold.

OK, my latest theories, independent of browser, are as follows:

1: If you go to Folder Navigator, Check every Checkbox, and choose the "Check Folder(s) for New Mail" Action, the Folder Navigator will start showing data in both the New and Total Columns for every mailbox/Folder. I'll post back here if and when this stops working for me.

2: Restating what StevenUnderwood wrote above, the only mailbox/Folder Names that are bolded are the ones which are Checked for New Mail and actually contain some New/Unread mail.

...I would like confirmation from other sources first, specifically the OP of this thread.

I don't yet know that one "OP" but it probably refers to me, Shreff. And no, I am not an Old Person, humm it must not really mean that :P

So ta, da. I'm happy to say, using netscape 7.1:

Show folders

Expand

Checked some boxes

Ran the action

yes, those w/ unread showed bold! QED
