  1. David,

    > I'm a customer of NameCheap and found them to be both responsive and responsible. I'll need to see some very convincing evidence to think otherwise.

    Regrettably, see http://www.spamcop.net/mcgi?action=showhistory;slice=issueid;val=557107224

The spamvertized URLs in those reports don't resolve to working websites. Perhaps action has been taken? Also, the primary purpose of SC is in dealing with the sources of email spam, not with spamvertized URLs. Looks like a lot of bogus info on the whois for reliefrecoverstrenght.link, which is something you can also use to have action taken.

  2. The reporting system and SCBL aren't very dependent on the SC email system. If I understand correctly, most of the data feeding the reporting side of things (the part owned by Cisco) doesn't come from people who use "spamcop.net" (or "cesmail.net") email addresses, but rather from people (and/or automated processes) submitting spam to the reporting side, and especially the submissions from "spamtrap" addresses, so taking our "Held mail reporting" out of the picture won't result in any significant change in the data flow that feeds the reporting/reputation/blacklist side. You first paragraph is all correct, but your question isn't particularly relevant, in that there won't be any significant change to the spam-reporting platform and blacklist elements of SpamCop.

  3. I'm sorry but there are no refunds.

That's unfortunate, but thanks for answering. Those who have paid in the last 45 days may now open transaction disputes with PayPal and likely receive refunds that way. I've provided a link to the instructions in the "No Refunds" topic.

  4. The actually responded to my original letter of 2 days ago

I guess my public criticism during the multiple system outages in recent months have resulted in my tickets and questions being ignored, despite having paid for multiple accounts for many years. I'll update this if I receive a response.

  5. Not through a forum you can't as it's totally separate. Email service[at]cesmail.net with your user name etc.

No, the forum is actually owned by the guy who owns/runs the email system--not all that separate at all. I sent an email to the "questions" address, which opened a ticket and he hasn't responded. He's clearly dodging questions about refunds. I'm thinking he might pull the plug on the forums as well.

  6. Now the service is being shut down--and with many of us having recently renewed--there will need to be a process to petition for refunds. To whom should such a request be directed?

The lack of mention of any refund process appears to be quite intentional. Unless something is announced by tomorrow, I'd recommend that everyone whose service should have extended past Sept. 30 file claims with PayPal ASAP.

I'd like a refund of the period after your terminating my services please. If you don't I will just make a paypal claim against you.

I think that if the owners don't specify a refund policy, that there will be a number of claims against them filed with PayPal. I'd been on the receiving end of such a claim (a bogus one, at that) and it's not fun, but they will take the money back from the vendor.

  8. My emphasis...(ex the SC e-mail advice) Assume folk are using this channel?

Well, not yet, but that's because the last support ticket I filed was never graced with a response, so why should I expect any better outcome? I'll give it a try, but I'll also insist they show up here and answer the questions publicly--they owe us that.

  9. Oh yes, it does indeed appear to be quite real, and there are questions not addressed in the announcement, such as whether those of us who are paid months past the shutoff date will receive any sort of pro-rated refund (or a complete refund for this year's fees, considering how HORRIBLE the service has been recently).

I'm sure that they've lost a LOT of customers in the last few years, due to the deteriorating reliability and inadequate communications.

Time to open up discussion on alternatives.

  10. I rather doubt that any of the complaining had any effect whatsoever, and believe me, compared to the HORRIBLE level of service and DREADFUL communications and customer service, there should have been MUCH MORE complaining.

But your other points need to be addressed, including pro-rated refunds. I'm paid up into 2015, but seriously doubt I'll see any refund, and I have two accounts. Like many here, I forward to my spamcop.net address from a number of other places, and depend on the webmail to access my messages, as I don't use a POP or IMAP client on my computer to pull down my mail. So the new forward-only arrangement will not be satisfactory for my situation.

I'm assuming that the embargo on discussing alternatives to CESMail is now over, so I'd say let's have at it and woe unto the moderator that tries to stop us! :-)

  11. I don't know what you mean, 'taken away'? Yes I used the Cesmail SMTP server and no I didn't apply for anything. I've been using it regularly without failure (to send).

The change in policy/access was recently revealed in this forum topic:

    http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=12944

The instructions to regain CES SMTP privileges was to write to support. I can't explain why they didn't disable yours.
