mrmaxx Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 Are SpamCop's virus defs up-2-date? I just got a couple things in email that I SWEAR must be viruses/worms. I know for sure I didn't order any *.exe files to be sent to me and I have no idea who is sending me some zip files.
dra007 Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 Good to hear I am not the only one, I get them usually soon after I report a bunch of spam. Someone claims it's from an infected machine, yet they seem to come from a *.edu.cn source in various forms and unless you analyze the headers it is hard to tell where they come from. They also seem to look like bounces, though they are quite ingenious for simple bounces. Since spamcop doesn't allow virus reporting, I wish someone would put an FAQ on how to report and deal with those e-mails. There is some difuse information in threads I started but this seems to be a recurring problem and may have resulted in spamcop users being banned. So someone with the technical knowhow, please help.

I think the "standard" answer is: 'run it through SpamCop, but don't send SpamCop reports....' i.e. go ahead and let SpamCop parse through the headers, etc, but don't send any official SpamCop reports, just send an email to the relevant admins informing them of the situation.
StevenUnderwood Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 They also seem to look like bounces, though they are quite ingenious for simple bounces. That is one of the descriptions of the w32.netsky.p[at]mm virus. More information can be found at: mm.html]http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen...etsky.p[at]mm.html
