[Resolved] I just by mistake reported a legitimate newsletter. What now?

I saw an email address with a strange name -"Inukshuk"- and though that as usual it was spam. So through MailWasher I reported it to SpamCop and a minute later confirmed the SC request for that, and now see that its being dealt with by SC.

Then I vaguely remembered that strange name, looked it up, and it's a site for yoga and mindfulness I also vaguely remember having giving my address to for newsletters, but a long time ago, and until now never received anything from them.

How can I prevent this report from doing any harm to the innocent site?

(I'm getting spam every 5-10 minutes sometimes, but al least 1 every 30-60 minutes and have MailWasher check for mail every 10 minutes, although sometimes when I don't want to get bothered I exit MW to only turn it back on when I'm ready again for more reporting.)

I would suggest that you retrieve the spam report number, contact the sender of the newsletter, explain your error and give them the report number. This way they can explain what happened and that their newsletter was reported in error.

OMG, that site is already blocked! :o

Luckily clicking on it showed the host and contact info. So I explained my error to them, gave a link to this tread, and the SC report info. Plus my apologies and the request to make that site available to the public again.

PS:

I was just contacted by a man from the host, and it turned out he had discovered there was "something" on that site that wasn't supposed to be there. So it was luck that I reported what I did he said. He was letting the domain owner know about it. :)

I recommended the free version of Incapsula for that site. To prevent more undesirable "somethings" from being placed on it. :D

Thank you.

I see nothing can be done to undo sending a report:

"SpamCop reports are sent via SMTP email, and SMTP has no feature to "unsend" email messages.

You should manually send a retraction and apology to those to whom you reported the spam, with a copy mentioning the Report ID to deputies <at> spamcop.net. Any originating ISPs will be able to use your recantation as evidence with SpamCop if your report landed them onto the SpamCop Blocking List.

To find those to whom you sent the erroneous report, use the Links "Past Reports" and "View recent reports", leading to the "Show past reports" / "Report History" Page http://www.spamcop.n...ion=showhistory, http://members.spamc...ion=showhistory, or http://mailsc.spamco...ion=showhistory.

I just send the data to "deputies <at> spamcop.net".

Glad the problem was solved.
