"Buffalo Spammer" gets 3.5 to 7 Years

Recommended Posts

Security.ITWorld.com is reporting that Howard Carmack has finally been sentenced. Unfortunately, his convictions were only on charges of identity theft and not felonius spamitude (or whatever it's called). He was caught before most anti-spam laws were passed, which probably saved him quite a few years of incarceration. As soon as he starts serving time, a collection will be taken up to provide his cellmate with all the H3RB4L V|ARG*ARA he wants.

As always, more discussion and general insanity at Slashdot.

And lots of uninformed yapping. Slashdot == trashpot

Guess we'll have to make sure we blacklist all the machines at the graybar hotel.

Re identity theft. Once again we have confirmed what the informed Spamhaus student already knows: many of these spammers are not simply enterprising geeks out to make a buck. They are scumbag criminals with long histories of much more serious crimes than just altering the From: field.

Or to make thing easier

All spammers are not geeks but all spammers are criminals.

Rule #0: spam is theft.

Angel's Commentary: Spammers believe it's okay to steal a little bit from each person on the Internet at once.
