jamroc
Hi, I'm new at this and could use some advice. I get well over a hundred spams a day form phoney AOL addresses. AOL has now locked me out - I assume from all the reports they are getting from here. COuld that be? If so what can I do: 1) To regain access to AOL. 2) SO it doesn't happen again. Thanks in advance, Jim
Jeff G.
What IP Address are you sending from? Exactly what error messages are you getting? Thanks!

jamroc
So there really is spam eminating from my IP address? I thought it weas because there are so many fake AOL addresses used for spam that my reporting HERE had caused the complaints. OK, then see if you can help me here. earthlink.netlink knows about this too, as I told them that I keep getting "UNDELIVERABLE" messages from other hosts. But the addresses (and the email) was not sent by me or my email address. Someone else is using MY DOMAIN to send spam and somehow it is making it through! Jeff G.
I'm not entirely sure if AOL means IP Address or Email Address by "point of origin". Please try sending to the same valid Email Addresses from the same IP Address using different From and SMTP Envelope Sender Email Addresses, and also please try sending from a different IP Address. Jeff G.
What about sending from a different email address?
jamroc
I'll try but I can't see how it willhelp. SOmeone is sending spam from Brian and Suzie and Steve and Bill , all at jamroc.net, my domain. My DSL is through PacBell but Earthlink hosts my site and holds my A record, and when I told earthlink they didn't really care. My pop server is Earthlink, BUT my SMTP is Pacbell. I think Pacbell has some loose screws. Or are they specifically manipulating me because I am not set yo right or have not requested certain protections or ? Jeff G.
Are you sending directly from your own mailserver, or using a PacBell/PBI/SBC smarthost? What happens if you try the other? Thanks!
jamroc
Sending thru mail.pacbell.net (it is accepting my outgoing jamroc.net mail, I NEVER use my Pacbell address. My pop server is earthlinks, pop.business.earthlink.net
Jeff G.
What happens if you try to bypass mail.pacbell.net and deliver directly to one of AOL's many mailservers?
jamroc
How do I find out one of AOL's mail server addesses? Also, they are not going to let me in without authentication are they? I guess maybe so seeing as PacBell is. Question: Isn't Pacbell or earthlink.netlink (whoever is responsible for allowing spam to be sent using my domain name) contributing the the spam problem by not blocking them? Is what they are doing called relaying? Thanks

Wazoo
Question: Isn't Pacbell or earthlink.netlink (whoever is responsible for allowing spam to be sent using my domain name) contributing the the spam problem by not blocking them? Is what they are doing called relaying? No to the first, no to the second. Anyone anywhere can type in "your" domain name as "their" address. Yes, certain ISP's may have configurations that don't allow it to fly, but ... as you can tell, this isn't much of a stumbling block. Relaying is way out of the park in reference to your problem / question. I see no sense trying to explain this and get you further confused / off track. It isn't the issue.
