janelee Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 Hi I'm new to this forum & a non-techie, so sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place. I can see that my problem with not being able to clear my Trash folder is not unique, but having looked around here I can't see an answer. Over Xmas/NY Trash has expanded to over 56000 mails & Spamcop can't seem to remove them (I've tried several different routes) as there are too many. Held Mail I've managed to keep down by daily purging as luckily I wasn't away. I dread going on holiday ever as the amount of duff mails is building - almost entirely they are bounces where spammers are using my domain as the return address & I'm not sure I can do anything about that one. My Login is set to clear out Trash over 4 days old & I've now reduced this to 3 to try & prevent a reoccurence, but could either the all powerful JT purge my Trash for me (login is janelee at spamcop.net) or someone tell me what to do. Jane
Wazoo Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 Kicked the same note you could have sent yourself .. You posted in the correct Forum ... but you piggy-backed a discussion on a different issue. This is called "going off-topic" The discussion you posted in was about the displaying of contents and fields when looking at some Folder contents. Your post deals with probablt loging-in / slowdown issues ... not the same subject matter. Though there are other discussions about the size/content of Folder content causing enough issues that there's even a FAQ entry put in place to address it, for the short term, I am going to break your post out into a "new" Topic ..probably to be Merged into one of those existing Topics when I get caught up a bit <g>
Wazoo Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 JT just responded with a "no problem" ... should be done by the time you login next time ...???
janelee Posted January 4, 2005 Author Posted January 4, 2005 JT just responded with a "no problem" ... should be done by the time you login next time ...??? 22343 Phew, Yes, all clear now. Many thanks. But why is this still a problem when so many seem to report it? Resorting to asking here for JT to step in seems like a bandaid & inefficient use of his time. The volume of spam is increasing all the time so it certainly ain't going to improve on its own.
StevenUnderwood Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 It is not a problem that JT can easily fix. The problem is with the software being used for the webmail interface (Hoard/IMP) which is simply a webmail package. The solution would be to switch to a new software package (much time work and hassles) or get the Hoard people to fix the problem from their end and install the upgraded version.

Is Hoard responding? If I get the same problem again in Trash or HeldMail, is there a quicker way for me to get to JT & request a purge, than post in here & wait? Eg Can I mail him direct? Thx
Jeff G. Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 That's Horde, the software which presents the Webmail webpages. You can email JT via support at spamcop.net.
schanmugam Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 apologies if I am posting this to the wrong forum. I, too, returned from xmas holidays to find 60K+ spam emails clogging my spamcop account. I was unable to delete them from my Held Mail folder through various mechanisms (webmail, IMAP with Thunderbird), so I deleted the Held Mail folder through WebMail and then recreated it. I presume the old Held Mail folder and its 60K spams are now in my Trash folder, which seems to be too large to access via webmail or IMAP. Can someone (JT) please purge my Trash folder for me? My spamcop username is the same as my login name on this forum.
Wazoo Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 schanmugam: note sent out on your behalf, as your words don't make it sound like you went the direct contact route.
schanmugam Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 schanmugam: note sent out on your behalf, as your words don't make it sound like you went the direct contact route. 22778 Thanks very much. I wasn't clear on whether I should email the spamcop support email address directly. The problem has been fixed.
Wazoo Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Good news that things are fixed. The typical problem in "me/us" trying to send a note out "for you" is that usually the poster here doesn't leave a clue as to what the SpamCop account name is, and typically, that account name has nothing to do with the name used to post here. You solved that riddle withi your query, so I could kick the note out immediately with the needed data. Your post fell into the "how to ask a good question" scenario, thanks <g>
