I am shocked, no smtp?

I am using Spamcop free reporting for years and also donated to legal fund as a price for that excellent reporting service

I thought my money was getting wasted at yahoo plus service offering no IMAP, TLS etc and bought Spamcop mail service as also a support.

There was NO warning about it doesn't have a SMTP. Thank God I didn't cancel my yahoo pop immediately allthough I really want to for security concerns about clear password.

I know "no warning" isn't made on purpose but come on... Nobody can make me use my ISP's SMTP (I don't even have password) for sending mail. No way.

I am using OS X and Mac as only system, I will have to setup my own SMTP here and will be probably blocked because of huge volumes of spam coming from this domain/netblock.

I am totally shocked and sad. I had NO warning about "no outgoing mail" and as a licensed Eudora user, I must live with sending mail from web.

I'm sorry, which part of "Leave the SMTP server set up with the server your ISP provides" on SpamCop Email Setup - POP and "SpamCop does not provide SMTP service to its Customers from their computers" on Jeff G.'s Guide to accessing SpamCop email using OE and IMAP did you not understand?

Also, your ISP should be able to provide you with an SMTP Server Name, User ID, Password, and any special connection parameters (such as SSL or pop then send) for you to use in sending email while connected to them. If they can't, please run away from them quickly.

I called my ISP and got mail account from them finally, exactly for this purpose.

To tell the "quality" of the smtp they offer, I give an easy example:

<x-eudora-setting:12909=login>

<x-eudora-setting:12909=cram-md5>

Yes, had to do one of most advanced,obsecure tweaks for Eudora to use their stupid smtp server. They advertise those protocols were supported so poor mail client lost its mind setting it.

It was the issue I speak about and also Spamcop has to offer a big, CAPS warning about the SMTP. Many Yahoo plus members etc aren't satisfied and they want to support Spamcop and use the excellent service offered.

Remember, we wouldn't "touch" any mailserver other than our ISP's if they offered some quality of service.

I didn' t see any warning while buying yearly service. I don't speak about the money etc, as I stated I supported legal fund without wanting anything back.

Having paid to a "Plus" service and I have to use my ISPs misconfigured, god knows what OS running Smtp server bothers me. Don't forget I will have to use PGP/SMIME since its just a plain smtp server. Forget about privacy.

I must admit I almost dropped my jaw when I see how excellent webmail interface is but we , some users like to use real mail clients.

Being on Internet since 1994, I really understand what I read btw. For ethical reasons, spamcop HAS TO write "there is no smtp service spamcop offers" while paying. The URL you reference shows up AFTER you paid.

Those ISPs filtering spamcop domain/blocks instead of enabling simple authentication is the reason why spamcop doesn't offer SMTP?

I'm not privy to the reasoning behind SpamCop not offering SMTP service (except via Webmail), other than some offhand comments in prior years about the difficulty of maintaining and policing such a service. The last official word on the subject was JT's "No, sorry, we don't" on February 9th, 2004 in response to "Does SpamCop have an SMTP server that I can use for Outlook Express?" per http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?...findpost&p=1294.

Actually SMTP service is provided; what is not provided is Remote SMTP service.

The reasons for SpamCop mail not offering a remote SMTP connection are many, I'm sure. Certainly, in the UK, it is pretty much standard practice for ISP to refuse remote SMTP (although SMTP AUTH is slowly becoming common). Apart from helping the ISP avoid abuse of their server, using your ISP's SMTP server should provide you with a speedier connection.

Of course, if your own ISP has spammer problems then you can get tarred with their brush - so to speak.
