Jeff G. Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 The SpamCop Statistics at http://alpha.cesmail.net/graphics/spamstats.gif show a 200+% increase in "Average spam" over the norm.
Mikey Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 Yikes is right. You can really see it here: http://alpha.cesmail.net/graphics/spamweek.gif
JonJon503 Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 I noticed the increase too. I wonder if it's because of the latest round of virii (Netsky, MyDoom, etc) reported as spam or they started a new accounting method. Another option is that the latest virii cause the infected computer to used as an open proxy. Can a deputy comment on what might be causing the increase. JonJon
Wazoo Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 Virii are not to be reported via SpamCop, so if all are following the rules, that's not the reason. Recent codebase changes have allowed some to now report spam that was erroring out last week, so this may have accounted for some of the results. That the incoming to a number of my accounts has just exploded in the last couple of days says that the explosion has been caused by more spam being sent out.
Ellen Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 A deputy could comment but this deputy has no idea why the increase. I'll ask next time I get a chance.
Chris Parker Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 Seems to be coming back down to "normal"
Jeff G. Posted February 26, 2004 Author Posted February 26, 2004 It appears that some stuff had been switched around, and was recently switched back.
Mikey Posted February 27, 2004 Posted February 27, 2004 some stuff had been switched around What stuff? You mean the stats were not reporting correctly or things were being double counted? Just curious.....
