Occassional Blocks--Why?

Y'all:

On occassion, I get an email stating my domain, riw.us, has been blocked because it's on the spamcop list. For instance, I've pasted in the "included message" from one such notification below. What I don't understand is that when I check, my IP address (either for mail.riw.us or riw.us) is not on the list at all. It seems like this happens on a periodic basis, but I can't ever trace the root cause. I don't know if someone else is faking my addresses, or what, but the server isn't open (it requires a username and password to use SMTP, although the originating domain is not checked, since this is a hosting service, rather than a "full ISP").

Does anyone have any thoughts or insight into the spamcop database that would help me keep from haiving email bounce?

Russ

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at associate.com.

I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.

This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

Doesn't sound like an actual SpamCop listing is involved at all - unless someone with access to listing history can demonstrate otherwise. Some admins seem to use "SpamCop" as a generic name for any list which is a possibility. All I can suggest is you query the rejecting IP - "exactly why are you saying this?"

Hi

As you'd know if you'd bothered to read the FAQ SpamCop doesn't work on domains or on email addresses but on the originating IP (the only thing that can not be forged)
