Yeah, I know, kind of silly to ask for input from folks that can't post (????) but .. this is the most recent traffic on the situation with any 'official' connection ...

IPSBeyond _ IPB Modding _ Webtv Issues

Posted by: Avonlea22 Apr 19 2006, 03:55 PM

I have a member who uses WebTV to access my forum. He has several issues:

unable to send a PM from the forum.

keep getting a pop-up message saying: "You must enter a message to post!"

can ONLY post if he uses the "fast reply" option.

cannot edit. Gets the pop-up message.

cannot post using the regular option.

cannot even "Log Out".

The official response I got from IPB was "I apologize, however there are known issues with WebTV and version 2.1 of the board. The board itself does not work properly with WebTV, however you may find assistance in finding/creating a modification to enable compatibility with WebTV at www.ipsbeyond.com"

So, here I am. Can anyone help?

To fully help you someone would need a full list of web tv incompatabilities...

well, all I know of are those listed. I'm no expert at this, so I'm not sure what other information would be needed.

Thanks

Web TV supports HTML 3.2 and IE rendering engine v4.0 last I checked.

I couldn't even download the webtv viewer

http://developer.msntv.com/TOOLS/webtvvwr.asp

to check into the issues....unfortunately, because WebTV is outdated and not being kept up to date with regards to web standards, there is very little we can do. I'd like to look into it, but frankly I'm not even sure where/how you can get a webtv at this point, and the viewer doesn't appear to be online.

I honestly didn't feel it could be fixed, knowing that WebTV isn't so popular anymore, but I thought I'd give it a try.

I guess I just need to encourage this member to buy a computer.

Thanks anyways!
