Chromatose Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 The SpamCop parser returns... No body provided, check format of submission ... if there's no body content to reported spam. Although it makes no sense, lately i'm getting spam which has nothing in it! I forwarded this spam exactly as i received it: http://www.spamcop.net/sc?id=z361323104ze9...9803d54357d4e5z What should be done in this case?
dra007 Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 I got a few of those myself today, some bouncing software remove or trunckates the body, in some there was enough header information to trace the source.
dhanna Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 I posted about "empty" email a few weeks ago. No subject, not to:, from: or body. Turns out it is from spammers who must have "broken" spam software. But when I told a friend about this, he asked, "Is it really spam if it contains nothing?". Good point, I said. So, is it?
Miss Betsy Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 But when I told a friend about this, he asked, "Is it really spam if it contains nothing?". It is spam if it is unsolicited and unwanted. spam is about conSent, not conTent. Usually, to be reportable, it should also be suspected to be bulk (naturally you can't determine that, but the ISP receiving the report should be able to). I don't know if the rules have changed, but it used to be permissible to add the words "no message found" or equivalent. Be sure to have a blank line between the headers and what you add. Then the parser will accept it and it can be reported. Miss Betsy
dhanna Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 Yes, I agree You know, my older email accounts were never spammed because I have always been good about controlling who I gave my email address out to. This one became bad after some idiot kept giving my email address as if it where his. He kept mistyping or being stupid and gave my email address which was one letter different than his. I noticed it when I started receiving emails from Ebay saying I had won a bid. At the time I didnt even have an account on ebay. Then I started getting porn and all that. Started getting email addressed to him, but at my email address for reunion stuff too. Having the private email that spamcop sends my reports and forwarded mail to works great, and I never receive spam there. That address is not common, not a common word, and has letters and numbers in it.
dhanna Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 I guess I should add... If all systems had an opt in type system, then I would not have received spam from all the sites and things the idiot put my email address into.

But when I told a friend about this, he asked, "Is it really spam if it contains nothing?". Good point, I said. So, is it? It's still spam to me. Still material i didn't want or request wasting space in my inbox. I don't know if the rules have changed, but it used to be permissible to add the words "no message found" or equivalent. Miss Betsy Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 QUOTE (dhanna [at] Mar 21 2004, 01:33 PM) I posted about "empty" email a few weeks ago. No subject, not to:, from: or body. Turns out it is from spammers who must have "broken" spam software. I have gotten the same entirely empty spam, but it did have headers. I had no sooner reported it, when I got another one with all the information there. Instructions must not be clear. <g> QUOTE (Miss Betsy [at] Mar 21) I don't know if the rules have changed, but it used to be permissible to add the words "no message found" or equivalent.
