problems being blocked by free email providers

Hi

I have started a new web service and as is normal, require email confirmation for registration.

The problem is that yahoo sends my response emails to the bulk folder and hotmail does similar action.

I am not a spammer, but I want to make sure my legitimate emails get to my registered users. I can obviously warn them about yahoo and hotmail, but is there anyway of stopping this ?

Any advice appreciated.

I am not sure if anyone can dictate how yahoo or motmail delivers email. But I am a hotmail user, and I can tell you that any email address can be added to a "safe list" so the mail gets delivered to the inbox instead of junk mail (not bulk mail).

If someone were to get email delivered to their junk mail folder, where it should have went to the inbox instead, they could click on the "This is not junk" icon which will then send it to the inbox and present the user an option to click on a link to add sender to a safe list.

thanks axxx007, having looked at some other forums (devshed for example) it looks like yahoo and hotmail are the worst for assuming email is spam unless lots of people have requested email from an address is not spam.

will probably just have to put a warning on the site.

The single biggest thing I have seen get mail send to junk-mail is bad RDNS entries. You need to make sure of several things:

1) You mailserver must announce itself using a fully qualified domain name:

correct - EHLO mail.example.com

incorrect - EHLO mail

2) You need to have a DNS A record, matching the announced name.

3) You need to have a DNS PTR record which points the IP address on the A record back to the same fully qualified name.

If any one of those conditions are not met, yahoo and hotmail will almost ALWAYS consider that email potential junk.

Unfortunately is not true....sorry to disagree...

I have the same problem .. and i did publish all the dns req. even MORE !..

No... there is something else .. that I / We are missing ...

For Example yesterday .. i received 2 emails from a spammer.. i will attach the header here ... IT WENT STRAIGHT TO MY INBOX ! ( never whitelisted it before !)

That looks like your own address <MY_EMAIL_ADDRESS[at]hotmail.com> is whitelisted for receipt. Whiteliting usually over-rides all filters. Are you sure you've not whitelisted "yourself"?

Yes it is my email address.. but .. nevermind that, HOW can HOTMAIL accept mail from one of their users FROM another SERVER !!!... when they ask us to comply with their stupid rules.. they don't follow their own rules..

Just thinking "the rules" don't/shouldn't apply to a whitelisted address - even if it is forged. But obviously you're not silly enough to whitelist your own account address, so sorry.
