Webmail Error: Public PGP keyserver support has been disabled.

Recommended Posts

I received a signed PGP email yesterday from Microsoft (security bulletin) and I noticed that when I opened it in Webmail, I got the following messages:

The message below has been digitally signed via PGP.

Public PGP keyserver support has been disabled.

So, I checked my PGP Options and have enabled:

Enable PGP functionality? Yes

Should the body of text/plain messages be scanned for PGP data? Yes

I have it disabled to send my key out with all messages, but that's probably not relevant to this discussion anyway. I also have my 1024bit keyring uploaded to the server with the proper fields filled in (as far as I can tell). When I first checked these options, it said I needed to be on a secure connection, so I logged out and logged back in to the Webmail using SSL and now that warning is gone. I also see the following message:

NOTE: PGP support requires popup windows to be used. If your browser is currently set to disable popup windows, you must change this setting or else the PGP features will not work correctly.

So, I also set to allow all popups from spamcop.net in my browser. However, I still see that error message. Here is the message headers and footers (body truncated for reading and space sake and changed my email username to ROT13):

Since there is no option to choose a keyring server under options, I presume this is something that must be defined in the server's configuration? If this is the case I'll shoot an email to support, otherwise, am I doing anything wrong on my end?

Thanks in advance,

Jon

There are a few previous (and old) Topics/Discussions with folks having issues with PGP. One that comes to mind included multiple reqiests to JT to physically go in and remove some key data, as that option is not available to the user. As I recollect, this is yet aother one of those instances where the final resolution is unknown, as the involved user never closed out the Topic.

There aren't that many PGP discussions here, so a search (using the Google tool at the very top of the page) shouldn't hurt too much. In the back of my mind, I'm actually thinking that you could use the Forum Search tool and look for S/MIME, as I think the data you're looking for is in one of those Discussions.

In my opinion, yes, this data is stored 'locally' and probably wasn't handled during this last upgrade .. but again, I'm willing to be corrected yet again.
