SpamCop could not find your spam message.....

Hi All,

I've been reporting spam manually for around a year now. Since recently installing a new mail server (FTGate Office 1.20 - HF1339 - www.ftgate.com) I've been able to trap 90% of spam there.

It is possible to configure FTGate to forward these messages elsewhere, so I've set it to automatically send them to my unique submit....[at]spam.spamcop.net address due to the quantities involved - >25 messages in the last 8 hours alone is beyond the realms & reality of manual submission!

I set up the forwarding lastnight. However, when I switched on the computer this morning, they had all bounced back to me, mostly with the error message in the topic title above. Another few had the error message "Message forwarded in html wrapper.".

Basically, my question is, where am I going wrong? I've checked through the FAQ and searched google, but can't find anything obvious. If I have overlooked a vital point that is covered in the FAQ, please direct me to it.

Below is a sample returned message. I have replaced my domain / email / IP addy with xxxx for obvious reasons, but the rest of the details are left unchanged.

Many thanks for any advice...

Cheers,

Dave

I don't have the technical expertise to explain to you what went wrong.

However, spamcop needs the raw headers. Forwarding by any other method than "as attachment" does something to the headers (in this case puts them in HTML?)

Someone else may have the same application and will be able to tell you whether it can be done and if it can, how to do it.

Until they come along, see if you can find an option to 'forward as attachment' so the application does not change the email so spamcop cannot parse it.

where am I going wrong

no idea, but obviously the forwarding method is hosed. The first problem, what you posted is totally screwed, based on the wrod/line wrapping. Whether that's because of your method of cutting/pasting/posting or a result of your new app, no way to tell from here.

Best thing I can offer is to Forward one to yourself, then compare that to the original and see what all got hammered in the process. Then figure out how to fix that.

That said, I'm a bit knocked out over all the "[at]chalky.com" entries in what should be a "fully qualified domain name" and a domain name doesn't include the "[at]" sign.

where am I going wrong?

spamcop.submit expects spam-header and spam-body in the body of the submitting mail.

It will ignore the header of this submitting mail. A mail header from a spamcop-user to spamcop won't contain anything interesting ;)

In your case spamcop.submit only gets the spam-message in the body. The spam-header is part of the mail-header it ignores...

(at least the sample you posted looks like.)
