[Resolved] Email no longer forwarded

Recommended Posts

Spamcop stopped forwarding email from my tscott [at] spamcop [dot] net account sometime after 8:30 PM EST on Sunday, 4/20/2008. There has been no changes made to my Spamcop configuration for months.

There are no emails in my Spamcop webmail inbox and the forwarded email is working properly.

I sent a couple email to Spamcop support about 24 hours ago and not received any response.

My Spamcop account is paid up through April of 2009 though I'm questioning the wisdom of that now.

Trying to sort out these two paragraphs in my mind. It doesn't work, it works properly ????? IS there supposed to be something in your InBox? No one here has any idea what your configuration is, what troubleshooting steps you might have taken, what error messages may be available anywhere .... because you didn't mention any of this or provide any details.

No corresponding traffic in the newsgroups, yours is the lone post in the Forum at this point.

I sent a test e-mail to the account you listed. No bounce, no rejection notice ....????

To clarify, my spamcop email has been setup for years to forward to a Wide Open West account. That is not happening as of Sunday. The Wide Open West account *is* working, as I've successfully sent test email to that account and received it.

The reason I mention there not being emails in my inbox is if the forwarding were disabled, my test emails (and regular email) would be there. They are not. I looked at my configuration and the forwarding email address is correct. I just want to eliminate that possibility that's it's a configuration error on my part.

Correct, I haven't received any bounce message on my test emails either.

Did you send your test from SpamCop's webmail? Is it possible that Wide Open West has changed some filter on their end and dropping all mesages from spamcop (due to some list or the word spam in the domain, dumb I know, but we have seen it in the past). Sending the test from webmail would be the closest we can come to the actual route the message would take from Spamcop.

Okay. I sent 2 emails from webmail to my WOW account. Neither arrived nor bounced (I turned off forwarding.) I was able to send webmail from my spamcop to my own mail server.

Could your 'Wide Open West' account be (RBL) blocking all email coming from spamcop.net?

Aha! I think we're hitting on something important....I just lookup up this SpamCop sending IP:

c60.cesmail.net ([216.154.195.49])

on the Robtex.com site and it's currently listed on the "no-more-funn" DNSBL:

http://moensted.dk/spam/no-more-funn/?addr=216.154.195.49

I sent the message using SpamCop's SMTP services, but not using webmail. I'll send another test in a moment using webmail, but we've got problems!

(on edit) The message sent from SC webmail went out from the same host/ip listed above. There are some other problems going on with SC accounts...some of them have been hijacked by spammers recently, so I'll post a link to that other thread in a moment.

However, what I said was "I sent a test e-mail to the SamCop.net account identifed" ..... you have said nothing about the receipt of that e-mail. As it was sent from one SpamCop.net e-mail account to another, it should have had no delivery problems. Therefore it has to be assumed that you have everything Forwarded, one of those things you stil haven't defined.

The initial troubleshooting step in my mind would have been to turn off Forwarding to see if in fact e-nail was making it into your InBox. Then try to sort out what was happening next, doing the sending out e-mail with a CC: to yet another account, such that you could offer JT some specific headers with Date/Time stamps to ease the Log search for your problem e-mails.

I sent the test email from my WOW account to my Spamcop account. With forwarding on, I never received the email at my forwarded WOW account. When I turn forwarding off, test emails do appear in my Spamcop inbox.

Here's a message header for an email sent from my Spamcop account to my Wide Open West account with a cc to my own mailserver. Only the latter arrived.

I just sent a test email from my SC email account to your WOW address, Todd. Let us know if it arrives. I'm guessing that perhaps WOW is blocking messages sent from SpamCop.

update: Todd, I received the following error:

The following message to <tscott9{mung}wowway.com> was undeliverable.

The reason for the problem:

5.1.0 - Unknown address error 554-'transaction failed'

I sent to the exact address given in your message above, so it seems that you need to give WOW a call about this.

I contacted WOW and asked that they stop refusing Spamcop mailserver connections and to whitelist the Spamcop IP. They didn't respond but 90-some emails recently showed up, including all the test emails.

In the meantime, I am no longer relying on email forwarding and am pulling emails in via POP. It's seems that when the Spamcop forwarding fails, there's no alert. That's just not a reliable method.

So, as far as I can tell right now, everything's copasetic.

Sounds like WOW was doing some type of server maintenance and that's why your emails where being held.

I only recommend using POP and/or IMAP to retrieve from SC email accounts. I don't recommend having mail forwarded somewhere else because things can, and do, go wrong.

If they are using Postini (which this shows they are), ask if you can have access to your Held Mail and settings. They should be technically able to provide that, but it may be against their policies to do so.
