inom234
Hi People, Over the last few weeks I have been getting a lot of spam that is very targeted. By targeted I mean the spam is using the names of local merchants / companies to Australia. Most spam I get uses US merchant names. The company doing the spam is FillYourTank4Free.biz this is the subject of the email: Petrol Voucher Notice - Please Confirm or Myers voucher - Please confirm They change the domain it comes from everytime the send it but the fiilyourtank4free remains the same. How would you report this. The domain they send from changes all the time. regards P
Miss Betsy
The parser should target the source IP address. It may be a different one every time, but the more you report the more abuse desks will be aware. If you mean the spamvertized URL is different every time, then that's a common problem. Again, reporting, if the parser can identify them, alerts abuse desks. OTOH, the reason that there is a different URL every time is that if one gets shut down, another is in place so it is not as effective as putting the source IP address on the spamcop blocklist. Bottom line: report'em. Miss Betsy
Farelf
They change the domain it comes from everytime the send it but the fiilyourtank4free remains the same. How would you report this. The domain they send from changes all the time. regards As Miss Betsy says - just report it, the parser will sort out the originator and (usually) the spamvertized links and where the reports should go. And post a tracking URL here. Impossible to know just what you're seeing from your descriptions. That's why the guidelines on asking such questions in these forums ask for trackers. Could be phishing, could be some other sort of spoofing, could be 'common' spam (UCE). If is something arising through your paricipation in onlinecompetitions.com.au (the only local organisation that seems to involve FillYourTank4Free - which is US) you might have actually agreed in the 'fine print' to receive this stuff. If not you might be able to go after onlinecompetitions.com.au (or Myer or anyone else with an Australian connection who is a beneficiary/participant in common spam) through ACMA - http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_310301 (there actually have been successful prosecutions).
