Blocked Email

Recommended Posts

It would be helpful if you posted the exact message that you get for blocked emails and your IP address.

Spamcop does not block email. It publishes a list of IP addresses that have been reported as having sent spam. The ISP of the customer you are trying to email is using the spamcop list to keep their customers spam free. There are other blocklists that ISPs use. Sometimes they use the same message for all of them.

In order for an IP address to be listed on the spamcop blocklist and how long it is on the list, depends on a complicated algorithym. It may be that someone using the same server as you do was spamming and has been stopped, or there is a trojanized computer which the spammer cycles spam thru to avoid being on the blocklist very long. Each time it is listed, the listing lasts longer, however. So if your IP address is no longer on the spamcop blocklist, it means that spam has not been reported from it in the last 24 to 48 hours (I am not sure of the exact time because it recently changed).

The person who would know the most about why the IP address was blocked would be your ISP. However, people here can give you more information about whether the blocking message really was from spamcop and whether the IP address has problems with other blocklists and general information about whether it complies with internet protocol - if they have sufficient information. They may ask more questions before they can give an opinion.

Yes it would help if you could provide the IP you believe is blocked or better still headers

If you are blocked it often means your computer has been hijacked and it is in your interests to read my signature and use Virus detectors Firewall (ideally both hardware and Software type) as well as scan with "Spy Bot" detecting software like Ad-Aware and or SpyBot S&D as well as getting latest windows updates
