  1. For those of you who prefer the layout of the newsgroups; you may want to try using the new display option: Display Mode = Outline.

To select this Mode, click on the [Options ] drop down box found on the right edge of the topic title bar.

The display mode appears to be a system wide setting, so once changed it will remain set for all topics, not just the selected topic. It can be toggle back and forth as often as desired.

Note: the first post will be displayed in its entirety, but all following reply will be listed in outline format.

  2. Please note that on 5-12-06 this forum was upgraded from version 2.0.4 to version 2.1.6

The upgrade was done before we wanted to do it due to some serious attacks on the forum that could only be stopped by doing the upgrade.

Much of the look, feel and appearance of the forum has been changed due to the upgrade.

You will find that numerious things work differently now, may not work at all, or have disappeared. We are working on restoring much of the previous functionability. It will take some time to complete, as it requires a very significate amount of work to alter the code base. Please bear with us during this conversion process.

This forum FAQ also needs to be updated to reflect the current software version changes.

Thank you for your patience during this difficult time.

Please see topic: Forum upgrade from ver 2.0.4 to 2.1.6, There are a lot of changes to be aware of! for addtional information regarding the upgrade.

Please feel free to post your questions, concerns, etc about the forum upgrade in this topic.

The following is a list of some of the changes due to the version upgrade. It is not complete and will be added to and updated as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.

    Changes due to version upgrade:

Post creation/edit interface has changed dramaticly

Spell Check location and access changed. It is now found at the top of the edit box as a new icon: spellcheck.gif It is small, so it can easily be missed.

newpost.gif (the new post flag) has been reset on all topics in the forum. (see Wazoo's explaination in the following post)

See Wazoo's post that follows for additional information.

  4. Recommendation:

In section three, the acronym BOFH should hyperlink to the definition in the Jargon file (for people who don't know what it means).

Added link to glossary file, but it does not seem to work correctly.

If the URL is pasted into a blank browser window to goes directly to the referenced item, but clicking on the link (which inserts the exact same URL only brings up the glossary topic, it fails to continue to the specific link.

    Maybe Wazoo can fix it.

The following posts and replies are not a part of this FAQ

They were used in its development and have been preserved as an archive and for future reference if needed.

Note: per forum policy, posts are never deleted, but are moved, when needed, to improve the usefulness of these forums.

    Q. I am getting spam/Abusive PM's. What should I do?

    A. Always report it to a SpamCop Forum Admin. Don't reply or retaliate, a SpamCop Forum Admin will deal with the problem.

I would think it would be helpful in include the perfered method to contact "a SpamCop Forum Admin" email? PM? along with the address.

Example: click here to send PM to SpamCop Forum Admin

  6. It would also be nice if it were possible to add names to the white list from within the web mail interface in the same fashion that you can in the VER interface -

Select one or a list of emails and white list and forward. (of course, forwarding would not be necessary when using the web mail interface)

Currently I use IMAP to handle my held mail. I move any messages that I want to white list to a separate folder and then after processing and deleating anything that is left in HeldMail, I move the messages back to the HeldMail folder, then go to the VER interface and white list and forward from there. It is a bit of a hassle, but is easier that entering each one individually.

  7. The purpose of Mail-hosts

To identify the mail hosts/mail servers used by you to recieve email and to separate them from those used to send you mail. To find the demarkation in the received headers where they switch from servers "belonging" to you or your ISPs/hosting companies and switch to received headers showing the source of the email.

    The goal of Mail-hosts

To avoid accidently reporting your mail servers when using the SpamCop reporting services.

What addresses need to be registered?

Only addresses that you receive mail at that you are going to report as spam using the SpamCop reporting services.

Note: If you have multiple addresses that are handled by the same server, then registering any one of the addresses will suffice.

    Mail-hosts simplified

What you will see when you look at a mailhost:

1: the general name of the mailhost as established in the spamcop files. This name is somewhat arbitrary and as the name for a given set of servers (ex. earthlink servers) is set by the first person to register them the name might not be what you expect. If the name is seriously strange it can be changed by writing to deputies <at> spamcop.net.

2: the list of mail servers used by the mailhost. This may include specific mailsever names as well as domain names.

3: the IP addresses of the relays used by the mailhost. Not all IPs are necessarily listed; if DNS/rDNS/DNS is correct then the server may be identified by the domain name.

4: the last e-mail address you registered that used that specific mailhost.

    A more detailed summary follows:

The "Mailhost name" is the registered name (as it appears in the spamcop database for mailhosts)

Note: the name may not seem to be correct due to the way it is created.

The mail host can service many different domains. As an example "Mindspring" is the mailhost name for Earthlink as well as for countless other domains.

"Email address" is the last email address that you registered that uses the "Mailhost name" indicated above it. You may have many different addresses and or domains, but as long as they use the same "Mailhost name" only the last one registered will be listed.

    "Hosts/Domains" is a bit confusing.

What it actually is, is a list of the names of the various mail servers utilized by the "Mailhost name" Those names appear in a drop down list.

Note: not all domains handled by the mailhost may be listed in the drop down list!!!!
