[Resolved] Reporting

Hiya, I have just joined and I don't see how I report spam. The only place I see to paste the mail is in a form that it titled ISP control centre. If I paste it there the next screen times out so I guess I am doing it wrong. Can somebody point me to the correct page.

Thanks

Hiya, I have just joined and I don't see how I report spam. /snip

Welcome to the club, there are plenty of instructions in this forum on how to go about reporting spam. First, have you configured your hosts to be sure you are not going to report yourself? The reporting technique I prefere, which allows you to report bulk spam without a need for pasting (a tedious process if you have to report hundreds of spam e-mails as I do) was to first configure a Spamcop imap account in my mail client (I use Window Mail in Win 7 but other clients can be used, with some cautions). Beauty of win mail is that you can now configure an msn account that recieves spam as well as regular pop and imap accounts, of which I have a few. Once that is done you can pick and drop the spam e-mail into your Spamcop HeldMail folder and go to your held-email folder http://mailsc.spamcop.net/reportheld?action=heldlog to report at your will. Once there you will notice some options such as quick reporting, or report each e-mail separately.

good luck,

and do come back, there are plenty of helpful and knowledgeable people here!

Dr A.

Hi DocRob1,

Do you actually have a reporting account (or a SpamCop email account)? Whatever, a starting point would be:

http://www.spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/285.html

SpamCop Parsing and Reporting Service

The main links from there are

For an overview of the service:

How does SpamCop reporting work?

To get started:

How do I sign up?

Rules - everybody read!

How do I get started reporting spam?

How do I submit spam via email?

How do I get my email program to reveal the full, unmodified email?

Parsing and reporting spam with SpamCop - decisions, problems

How do I configure Mailhosts for SpamCop?

What is "mole" reporting?

That describes the reporting service. For detail on the mail service (which includes reporting) see

I signed up for free reporting service and I have Authenticated. However, I do not see any links to report mail or set up mail hosts, the only reference I can find to this is in the site map under help.

OK, you should have received an email giving you the password for your account (which will get you into the web page for "paste-in" reporting or for validating emailed submissions, for setting up mailhosts, user preferences and so-on) and it should also have the (secret) "submit" address for sending email submissions. Make sure you don't have it anywhere (like in your trash) then email SpamCop Admin at service[at]admin.spamcop.net and advise him of your problem.

P.S. The log in page once you have the password is http://members.spamcop.net/, that should be in the email too, and once you are logged in your email "submit" address should be repeated there.

I did get the mail and I can log on, but there are no links on that page to setting up mail hosts or reporting spam. I have emailed admin.

Thanks

Aha! There were clues ... if they were dogs they'd have bitten me. I was just not in tune to them. Thanks Don.

Question now is, did the O/P DocRob1 actually intend to start an ISP services account or does he actually want a reporting account? Or both? Two different email addresses are needed to have both, I believe. Presumably this has been sorted out direct.

If there is no more posted I will mark this "resolved" (a little later).
