Lking Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 interesting post by Cloudflare about Syria cutting the country from the internet. Neat video showing the links go down as "the routers" were changed.
rconner Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Yes, very interesting. I like how the state blamed it on a "cable cut" by the enemy -- killing two birds with one stone by cutting off info to and from the dissidents and then blaming the act on them. A cable cut should not completely cut off a properly-designed network, but if one party (the state) holds all the connectivity, then they can do what they want with it. Score one for the libertarians among us (of which I may be one in this narrow instance) who say that the networks should be private and not state-run. -- rick
Lking Posted December 1, 2012 Author Posted December 1, 2012 I thought the gov story was a stretch too. The rebels must by good, coordinating the correct 4 cable cuts within 2 minutes. And as you said Rick, to cut off their own internet.
Lking Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 I hear in the news that the Syrian "fix the cable" today. (Guess the higher-ups needed a porn fix based on what the last links were as the internet went down.)
